South Leinster delivered an impressive all-round performance to claim a comprehensive 151-run victory over Dublin University after setting a commanding total of 300/6 from their 50 overs.

After deciding to bat first, they made a steady start before losing two wickets inside four balls, with Sidharth Biju and Bruce Whaley departing after cameos. Tom Johnson helped settle the innings with an assured 54 from 60 deliveries, to rebuild alongside Daniel Forkin. The pair added valuable stability through the middle overs before Johnson fell shortly after reaching his half-century.

From there, Daniel Forkin took complete control of the innings with a superb unbeaten 140 from 132 balls. Mixing patience with controlled aggression, Forkin struck 15 fours and two sixes in a knock that anchored the South Leinster innings throughout. He found further support from Srihan Karpe, who contributed 22, before Mark Tonge added late momentum with a quick-fire 18. Connor Walden also chipped in at the death as South Leinster accelerated strongly in the closing overs to finish on an imposing 300/6.

Dublin University’s bowlers battled hard despite the warm conditions, with Yash Balasubramanium the standout performer, returning figures of 2/38 from his 10 overs. Macdara Cosgrave and Conall Woods also chipped in with two and one wicket respectively.
In response, Dublin University’s chase never fully recovered after an early collapse saw them reduced to 30/2 inside the first five overs. Macdara Cosgrave led the resistance with a determined 56 from 69 balls, striking eight boundaries. Oliver Molins added 25 and Samuel Joyce contributed 14, but regular wickets prevented Dublin University from building any sustained momentum.

South Leinster’s bowling attack maintained pressure throughout the innings, with wickets shared across the attack. Harry St Leger produced an excellent spell of 2/20, while Tom Johnson capped off an impressive all-round display by taking 2/3 from 2.5 overs late in the innings. Sean O’Brien, Connor Walden, Srihan Karpe, Peter Forkin and Mark Tonge all claimed wickets as South Leinster consistently chipped away at the Dublin University batting line-up.

With DU eventually bowled out for 149 in the 38th over, completing a dominant victory for South Leinster.
Dublin University will need to regroup quickly, as they change format to face North Leinster tomorrow evening in T20 action, starting at 5pm in College Park.
