ED SPORTS PREMIER LEAGUE – INDIVIDUAL AWARD WINNERS CONFIRMED! (SEPT 7TH)

Saturday’s final round of league fixtures in the ED Sports Premier League served as something of a lap of honour for Merrion, as they claimed their second consecutive treble, rounding it off with a comprehensive win over local rivals Pembroke.

That also means that the individual awards for the top level of Women’s Competitions have today been confirmed, and it should be no surprise to anyone that the champions Merrion feature strongly in both the winners columns, but also in the leaderboards across the categories.

CRAWFORD CUP (BATTING)

There have been some very consistent performers in this category over the last number of years, and it’s no surprise to see some of the most consistent top order players in the league featuring in the players who qualified for this award. Balbriggan’s Lara Maritz leading the aggregate, whilst Rush skipper Ellie McGee made an impressive 590 runs at an average in excess of 40, whilst Merrion’s Annabel Squires was just the other side of that mark, as she managed 510 runs.

The winner of the Crawford Cup however comes from Leinster, and having had a season which began under an injury cloud, it is a huge credit to Laura Delany’s consistency with the bat that she has managed to breeze past the qualifying threshold in just 9 games, claiming the trophy with an total of 465 runs at the excellent average of 77.5.

HARRISON CUP (BOWLING)

The Harrison Cup for 2026 is the first of two trophies heading to Anglesea Road alongside the league title. The qualifying bar of 16 wickets for the top tier was breached by four bowlers, including Mhairi Nicoll of Pembroke, Clontarf’s newcomer Rosie Neuman-Jones and Phoenix seamer Darcey Dalwood, who all averaged less than 19 with the ball.

The winner however is Julianne Morrissey, who claimed her 17 wickets at an average of 17.35, putting her just 0.02 clear of Nicoll in the final standings, and seeing her claim the cup as the leading Premier League bowler for 2026!

DAWSON CUP (WICKET-KEEPING)

The other individual award heading back to Anglesea Road is the Dawson Cup for the leading wicket-keeper in the league, and this award was hotly contested towards the end of the season, as Leinster’s Joanna Loughran traded blows with our eventual winner in the season’s run-in.

The duo finished level on 10 dismissals in total, however with the tie-breaker being the number of stumpings, Ally Boucher’s 5 puts her clear of Loughran’s 3, to see her crowned the Dawson Cup winner for 2026!

HOWARD CUP (ALL-ROUNDER)

Finally, we have the Howard Cup, which goes to the leading all-rounder in the division, and once again there are some notable names on the list. Interestingly, second through fifth positions are all occupied by spin bowlers, with Ellie McGee again featuring here ahead of fellow leg-spinner Aisling Lawlor of Merrion, before a pair of off-spinners round out the list, with Malahide’s Freya Sargent in fourth ahead of Rosie Neuman-Jones in fifth.

This trophy however has been retained by the only seam-bowler in the list. As Balbriggan’s captain and star-turn Lara Maritz has once again been confirmed as the Howard Cup winner for the 2026 season, she does so having scored a remarkable 679 runs, and paired that with a further 13 wickets, finishing over 100 points clear at the top of the standings!
