Craig Senior examines the week’s Fantasy action

40 years ago this week, county cricket matches in England were interrupted by snow. Snow in June! Nothing as drastic here this year, but the rain last weekend was pretty non-stop and what a waste of a bank holiday.

We all usually expect that at this time of year, superb weather as students undertake their Leaving and Junior Certificate examinations. Many readers will remember the time well. Students feeling panicky and being in a sports hall behind an old desk. Said desk covered with pens, pencils, erasers, mascots, good luck charms and even in some cases, although not mine, hidden notes to remind one of dates, formulas or other vital information. All the time the sun beaming through the windows, making the hall warm and the student sleepy and liable to daydream of the world outside and the freedom of summer holidays before the horror of results arrive in August.

Our thoughts go out to each and every student undergoing this ordeal this year (including my own daughter), but also to every captain trying to fill 11 spots on their team without the 15 and 17 years olds. It’s tough enough with family holidays taking vital team members, and even captains, away without the backbone of many a team having to spend their weekends buried in text books or re-visiting hastily written and now unreadable notes made in the depths of winter.

The season is now well underway with some players having played double figures in  games between the showers, the re-fixed T20 games and even some weekend games. The midweek cups are underway, the league tables starting to take shape and Paul Reynolds has to chase result cards from errant sides. These errant cards affect not just the league tables, the cup draws, but also the fantasy league. Last week’s leader benefitted from 5 cards being added to the submitted list, but did deserve to lead. It was just a surprise to see such a meteoric rise.

This week Railway Union’s Spanish speaking Kiwi Designer, Ivan Morgan, playing for the 6th XI scored 250 points in one game. It certainly was a Man of the Match performance with 120 runs, 4 wickets and 2 catches. Did anyone else dominate a game as much as this man? It appears to have been Ivan’s second game this season, but without a scorecard submitted to the OCC his points remain in limbo until it is submitted and also no doubt enter the OCC’s starring list discussions. His captain should now be under pressure to get that result in quickly as all captains should. Paul Reynolds must be reaching the stage of point deductions and other sanctions available within the Human Rights Act.

However our overall leader as we head in the summer month of June remains Harry Tector of YMCA. His 610 points sees a lead of 30 points over the other 1,571 players.

In total 187,273 points have been allocated from the results received. This means an average point per player mark of 119.
The other headline totals to date are:

Centuries
Only one player has managed to register two centuries, Lucan’s A Hashmi. Playing in Division 11, he does seem to blow hot and cold. A total of 277 runs, in 7 innings at an average of just under 40, including two centuries and a highest score of 130 would suggest the other 5 innings total just 40 runs. Get him early or pay the price. A further 25 players have received the acclaim of the crowds by reaching three figures. Here are all of our centurions.

2        A Hashmi, Lucan
1        H Fernando, Castle; M Kilroy, Civil; P Jonker, Grey; Tomas Rooney Murphy and H Archer, Hills; M Ingamell, Knock; Eamonn Byrne, Lein; S Sarfraz, Long; M O' Brien, Mal; B Singh Bhathal, P Mandati and M Navid, Merr; N McGovern, Z Imran and Joe Murphy, all         NC; David O'Riordan snr, Pemb; Lynal Jansen and David Carthy, both Rush; Peter Auret, Slieve; Sunil Thomas, Swords; Stephen JP Moreton and A D'Arcy, both Tarf; Simranjit Singh, Jack Tector and D McDonough-Kinkade, all YMCA.

Highest Scores
Logically all of the highest scores have been registered by the players shown above. Only one player has managed to pass 150, who has been a regular heavy scorer in his time with Slieve Bloom, Peter Auret. Peter and in fact the top three scorers  would seem well able to compete at a higher level. The advantage, or curse depending on your point of view, of new one team Clubs entering the leagues.

184        Peter Auret, Slieve
143        S Sarfraz, Long
130        A Hashmi, Lucan
126        David Carthy, Rush
120        B Singh Bhathal, Merr.

Fifties
197 Half centuries has been registered by 165 players. 4 players have scored three fifties and are shown below, 24 players have scored two half centuries and a further 137 have raised their bats the once.

3        Stephan Grobler, Cork; S Mehdi Shah, Phoe; Declan Moore, Ring and ; B Speake, Ter
2        24 players
1        137 players

Ducks
At the opposite end of the runs charts are the ‘Ducks’. V. Mohanan, Trinity still holds the unwanted record of 4 innings and 4 ducks, but has at least been joined on four ducks by Greystones’ Declan Ryan. 487 players have been dismissed for a duck, so do not be too downhearted when it does happen to you.

4        V Mohanan, Trinity; Declan Ryan, Grey.
3        Padraic Flanagan, YMCA; V Kasana, Merr; E Hart, Bagenal; I Sabir, RU; Jithin Jose, Lucan; S Ayyappath, Ter; and M Kakkar, Lucan.
2        78 players
1        400 players

Batting averages in this column do not have minimum qualifications of innings batted or runs scored. This does throw up anomalies, but this column does not care. It shows players who have had outstanding innings as well as those who are regular run scorers. If you feel this approach is horribly wrong, do leave feedback. I have a filing box next to my desk.... 61 players are averaging 50 or over. Special mention for Neil Rock of Rush, who appears below in 8th place, and also captained his school Under 14 team to the LCU School U14 Cup Final.

Not outs
M Scott, Phoe and H Archer, Hills have both managed to have 4 not outs, in seven and six innings respectively. K. Brennan, Ter and R McGeehan have both had three innings and not been dismissed once as yet.

Leading Wicket-Takers
With ball in hand, the overall leader Harry Tector has opened a gap, albeit a small one, on the other 1,022 players who have bowled at least one ball.

17        Harry Tector        YMCA
15        L Prior        Tarf

Most Overs Bowled
The busiest ten bowlers have all managed, or been flogged, to bowl in excess of 50 overs. Is it that if you take wickets you get to bowl more, or the bowlers who bowl more get more wickets? Chicken and egg question.

68        S Streek, YMCA
57.4        Harry Tector, YMCA
55.2        A Abbasi, NC
54.3        M Nurulain Boda, Castle
52        A Sahota, Sand; Sinto John, Grey: N Sharma, Merr: Padraic Flanagan, YMCA.
50.4        Joe Prendergast, Pemb
50.2        Howard Askew, Lein.

5 wicket Hauls
35 players have managed this feat, but not one of them has done so more than once.
The top performers will appear under the category, best bowling analysis.

Best Bowling Analysis
Mick Cotter, Ter, when he isn’t busy umpiring school games, still turns the arm over to great effect. His 7/30 remains the provinces top bowling analysis. Continuing with umpires who also play, W. Clarke, Phoe, is second on the list. Are umpires looking after their own? Surely not and it is just coincidence.  The top ten are shown and include Bagenalstown’s own Dorian Grey, Ray Stapleton.

7/30        Mick Cotter, Ter
6/9        William Clarke, Phoe
6/14        Susheel Kumar, RU
6/19        Sean McCarthy, Tarf
6/33        Jeremy Dunleavy, Pemb
6/39        M Collier, Tarf
6/41        E Conway, Rush
5/7        Ray Stapleton, Bagenal
5/11        A Yadav, Adam
5/12        I Singh, Mal; R. Butt, Carl and Masud Ahmed, Phoe.

Bowling averages
213 players have bowled without taking a single wicket and hence have no average. Two players have sent down 19 overs without dismissing a batsman, P. Siddireddy, Merr and Fiachra Tucker, Pemb.
That said 129 players have a bowling average (per wicket) of less than 10.
The best 11 are all averaging less than 3. Five of these have taken but one wicket, three have 2 wickets and two have three. The amazing exception is Ray Stapleton who has 10 wickets at an average of exactly 3.00.

Catches
Not willing to do the legwork to separate wicket keepers from fielders, here are the highest catches with the proviso the player has no stumpings.
8        David Carthy, Rush and J Grassi, NC
7        N Thambi, Ddrm

Wicket-Keepers
This list shows the number of dismissals where the player has at least one stumping. Luckily it is not done on a family basis or else the Forrest family would have this sewn up already. Between this and the previous category most players are included.
13 (8+5)        Sam Murphy, YMCA
12 (8+4)        Richard Forrest, Lein
10 (9+1)        Robert Forrest, Tarf

Player Unregistered
This bane of Paul Reynolds’ life has now played 12 times, more than any single player in the LCU, for Cabinteely, Ring Commons (twice), The Hills (twice), Leinster, Greystones, Adamstown (twice), Clontarf, Bagenalstown and Wicklow. He has 449 points which would see him in 13th place. 149 runs, 8 wickets, 2 catches, a highest score of 35* and best bowling of 3/22

Any feedback, either positive or not, or notification of exceptional performances or even requests for figures, positions, etc. can be tweeted to @FantasyTableLCU.
