  3. Ajay Varma still leads the Fantasy League
29th July 2015 by Craig Senior

Ajay Varma still leads the Fantasy League

Merrion’s A. Varma remains our leader for a second week, helped undoubtedly by the weather and the number of games that were not played last week. If this weather were to keep up then a large number of leagues are going to be decided on the basis of 20 over evening matches. However this has not deterred A. Varma who managed to increase his total by 75 points this week.

Second place, Phoenix’s S. Anderson did not play last in the past week and remains on 1,305 points. Third placed Simranjit Singh of YMCA is another who did not get to take to the field this week. However, in fourth, The Hill’s Tomas Rooney Murphy gained 130 points to jump from 12th place last week.

The Fantasy League, and the league tables, are presently missing 24 scorecards. Seven result cards are due from one Club, Greystones. No single other club has more than two cards outstanding. It is expected that when all cards are in, the Greystones players may benefit from a sudden jump in their points!!

The Leinster Senior Cup and Middle Cup Finals are on this weekend in Claremont Road and Kenure respectively. The best of luck to Clontarf, YMCA, Merrion 3 and Pembroke 3. It is now Finals time of the season. Silverware to be won, celebrations to be enjoyed and memories to be made.

The top 30 overall point scorers have all crossed the 1,000 point threshold and are shown here. Clontarf have three players in the top 10.

Now onto the point scoring categories....

Matches (10 points per appearance)

1,982 players have taken the field, including of course P. Unregistered, and in terms of player games there have been 13,247. That is a lot of playing.

  1. 26 S Streek – YMCA
  2. 25 A Varma – Merrion & Richard Wing – Malahide
  3. 23 Daniel Coffey – Rush; N Sharma – Merrion & Mick Cotter - Terenure
  4. 22 L Prior – Clontarf; Sid Nair – Terenure; Achmet Carr – Pembroke; N Shahzad – Phoenix & G Lynch - Terenure

Runs scored (1 point per run)

Even without playing in the past week,  S. Anderson remains the top of the run scoring chart, although S Kant Trikha and A. Parkinson also have not added to last week’s totals. In total, Leinster cricket has seen 166,500 runs scored to date by 1,832 batsmen who have scored at least one run. Only 56 players have not at least had 1 innings and 94 players have been sent to the middle but have returned, out or not, without a run to their name. Conor Gibbons of Malahide has played 16 games and in those has batted 4 times without garnering a run, whilst B. Cramp of Leinster CC has played 9 games and has not batted once as yet.

  1. 715 S Anderson - Phoenix
  2. 643 S Kant Trikha - Carl
  3. 634 A Parkinson - Merrion
  4. 632 H Archer - The Hills
  5. 620 R Smith - Merrion
  6. 616 R Tariq - Clontarf
  7. 585 N Johns - YMCA
  8. 584 Andrew Poynter - Clontarf
  9. 583 Simranjit Singh - YMCA
  10. 554 Robert Forrest - Clontarf

Centuries (bonus 20 points per 100)

Unsurprisingly, players who are doing well in runs scored also appear in this list. 101 centuries have now been recorded by 86 players. 75 of these players have reached the ton once, whilst those who have multiple tons are shown here:

  1. 4 S Kant Trikha - Carl
  2. 3 H Archer – THCC & Simranjit Singh - YMCA
  3. 2 S Anderson – Phoenix; B Singh Bhathal – Merrion; Andrew Poynter – Clontarf; Fintan McAllister – Malahide; Jack Tector – YMCA; A Hashmi – Lucan; H Mac Donnell - Leinster CC & Ivan Morgan - R&SPU

Half Centuries (bonus 10 points per 50)

619 half centuries have been scored by 410 players with 283 reaching the landmark just once. A further 66 players have managed to repeat the feat and 48 players have done so thrice. Those that have scored 4 or more are shown here:

  1. 6 S Anderson – Phoenix & T Halliday - Leinster
  2. 5 A Parkinson – Merrion; R Smith – Merrion; B Speake – Terenure & Paul Ryan - NKCC
  3. 4 Andrew Poynter – Clontarf; R Butt – Carl; A Carr – Pembroke; N Thambi – Dundrum; Declan Moore – RCCC Umar Siraj - R&SPU & Alan Reynolds - Malahide

Wickets taken by Bowlers (20 points per wicket)

8,805 wickets have fallen to 1,210 bowlers, whilst a further 221 bowlers have turned their arm over albeit without the reward of a wicket. S. Crawley of North Kildare and M. Tonge of Leinster CC have both bowled 26 overs without a wicket, whilst C. McLoughlin-Gavin of The Hills, Sibu Jose of Swords and O Sivanatham of Adamstown have all taken a wicket in less than one full over of bowling. A. Varna of Merrion, our overall leader, leads the wicket takers by 14 and will certainly be the first and maybe the only player to pass 50 wickets in 2015.

  1. 46 A Varma - Merrion
  2. 32 R Kear - Balbriggan
  3. 30 Joe Prendergast – Pembroke:  N Sharma – Merrion; Daniel Coffey – Rush; A Kavanagh - The Hills
  4. 29 S Streek – YMCA; M Jacob – Swords; Harry Tector – YMCA;
  5. 27 Kieran Vulker – Pembroke; Jono Cook – Pembroke; Padraic Flanagan - YMCA
  6. 26 M Nurulain Boda – Castleknock; Craig Senior – Pembroke; L Prior - Clontarf
  7. 25 JJ Garth – Pembroke; S Daniel - Dundrum

Five wicket hauls (bonus 10 points per 5 wickets in a match)

No-one has achieved the Bowlers Holy Grail of 10 wickets in a innings so far in 2015, but 90 players have collected at least 5 wickets in a match. 82 players have done it once and those that have done so more than once are shown here.

2     M Granger – Clontarf; Willie Clarke – Phoenix; J Carroll – Leinster; Pat Carty – Merrion; L Ali – Ashbourne; B Singh Bhathal – Merrion; S Rahim – ACC; M Thompson - YMCA

Catches (10 points per catch)

Wicket Keepers dominate this category, but outfielders do get the points for catches too. 4,269 catches have been held, and although no statistics are held on dropped chances, I am sure there are plenty of bowlers who could tell you how many have been spilled whilst they were bowling. 1,364 players have held at least one catch, so we know they can catch.

27     Robert Forrest - Clontarf

24     Sam Murphy - YMCA

21     Richard Forrest - Leinster

20     Mick Cotter - Terenure

19     J Grassi - NCCC

17     Neil Rock – Rush; P Bhardwaj – Dundrum; Diarmuid Lynch - Terenure

15     Charlie Kavanagh – Pembroke; S Katta -Laois

Stumpings (15 points per stumping)

Wicket keepers are the only ones able to claim these points and the names are similar to the catches list. 228 stumpings, including 7 in the past week have been made by 109 keepers (full and part time).

8     Sam Murphy - YMCA

7     P Byrne - R&SPU

6     Robert Forrest – Clontarf; Richard Forrest – Leinster; R Smith – Merrion; Lorcan Tucker – Pembroke;

5     Fintan McAllister – Malahide; Neil Rock – Rush; A Taylor – Phoenix;  C Cunneen - The Hills; I Coleman – CCCC

Now that the categories earning you points towards the fantasy table have been dealt with, we can review some other categories and statistics.

Player Unregistered

15 Clubs have availed of the services of Player Unregistered. He has played 30 games and if his points are combined he would appear in the overall table with 1,145 points. This would place him 11th overall. He has taken 20 wickets, scored 380 runs, held 4 catches and had 1 stumping.

His favourite Club is Terenure for whom he has appeared 5 times, whilst Adamstown have utilised him 4 times. He has one half century for Greystones and his best bowling of 3-22 came for Ring Commons.

Points per game

Only ten players are averaging over 100 points per game and of this 10, three players have played at least 10 matches.

  1. 00 Hamid Ali - ACC
  2. 00 T Dempsey - Phoenix
  3. 00 B Ovenden - Phoenix
  4. 50 D Ruddock - Halverstown

  9. 00 Sukhpal Singh - Terenure
  10. 38 S Anderson - Phoenix

Ducks

There have been 1,500 ducks shared between 1,004 batsmen. However there is one clear leader, Civil Service’s S. Mistry , who has made 5 ducks. Twenty players now have 4 ducks, whilst ninety batsmen  have three ducks and 252 have been and gone without scoring twice. Finally 641 players have not ‘troubled the scorers’ just once.

  1. 5 S Mistry - CSCC
  2. 4 A Varma – Merrion; R Kear – Balbriggan; I Sabir - R&SPU; P Bhardwaj – Dundrum; S Gallagher – Halverstown; Andrew Moore -               Balbriggan; G Lynch – Terenure; Abdul Samad – Balbriggan; V Mohanan – Clontarf; J Meier – YMCA; Peter Marshall – Pembroke; Ciaran Kenny - R&SPU; M McDonough – Phoenix; E Hart – BCC; S Lynch – Terenure; N Shahid – Rush; Sugata Gupta – Pembroke; Jason King – BCC; M Kakkar – Lucan; Declan Ryan - Greystones

Highest Individual Score in a match

Peter Auret remains top of this pile, although it does not earn him any further fantasy points. However, this list only allows a batsman to be entered once, so there is no telling if anyone’s second best score would also put them on this list.

  1. 184 Peter Auret - SBCC
  2. 156 S Kant Trikha - Carl
  3. 153 R Butt - Carl
  4. 147 Graham McDonnell - Pembroke
  5. 143 S Sarfraz - Longford
  6. 140 Simranjit Singh - YMCA
  7. 138 E Sheehan - Rush
  8. 136 B Singh Bhathal - Merrion

  23. 124 T Townend - R&SPU
  24. 123 L Maimba - Mullingar
  25. 120* D Brogan - Rush

Batting Average

In one of those statistical anomalies, exactly 50 players are averaging 50 or above. Some of these players have only played a few games, or have benefitted from not outs. However, a number of players have played in excess of 8 games, which would be considered a fair number and these players are in bold:

  1. 00 K OHerlihy - Leinster
  2. 00 D Ruddock - Halverstown
  3. 00 H Yadav - ACC
  4. 50 M O' Brien - Malahide
  5. 50 B Thompson - AIB
  6. 00 Imran Khan - Merrion
  7. 00 D Rhoda - Merrion
  8. 00 G Kirwan - Malahide
  9. 86 S Kant Trikha - Carl
  10. 25 J Outram - Merrion
  11. 40 T Halliday - Leinster
  12. 00 N Naik - Phoenix
  13. 00 Jack Tector - YMCA

Best Bowling Analysis

Munir Khan of Civil Service keeps the 2015 seasons best bowling figures for another week and it will take something very special to topple him from his perch. As mentioned before, 90 bowlers have taken five wickets in an innings, but only four have taken seven or eight wickets.

  1. 8-5 Munir Khan - CSCC
  2. 7-24 Willie Clarke - Phoenix
  3. 7-30 Mick Cotter - Terenure
  4. 7-49 N Anjum - WWCC
  5. 6-8 Brian Parchment - NCCC
  6. 6-10 Ben Sisinni - Pembroke
  7. 6-11 R Tariq – Clontarf & V Krishna - Merrion
  8. 6-14 Susheel Kumar - R&SPU
  9. 6-18 A Kavanagh - The Hills & M Thompson - YMCA
  10. 6-19 Harry Balbirnie – Pembroke & Sean McCarthy - Clontarf

Best Bowling Averages

Three bowlers have taken wickets without conceding a run, L. Bingham of DUCC, Hamid Ali of Adamstown and C. McLoughlin-Gavin of The Hills. In a similar way to the batting averages, bowlers who made the list and have taken at least four wickets are shown in Bold.
