  3. What clubs performed best in OC in 2015
30th December 2015 by Eddie Lewis

What clubs performed best in OC in 2015

At the end of each season Paul Reynolds provides a table that shows the top teams in Ireland. Three Leinster teams, Clontarf, Merrion and YMCA, occupy the 2 - 4 spots at the end of 2015. But of course performance is not just about the 1st XI competing in the premier leagues. It is about all the teams in a club [we are here focussing only on Open Competitions].

Promotion and relegation obviously provide a clear and often brutal indicator of performance. In a previous article we provided the full list of teams in the promotion and relegation spots [actual movement of clubs is determined by the Open Competitions Committee] at the end of the season.

A broader indicator of how clubs are doing is provided by looking at the Win/Loss ratio for the year.  The table below provides the figures - covering only the matches that were decided on the field of play. The overall percentage of matches that did not get played [including Walk-Overs] was around 15%.

Perhaps not surprisingly the table is dominated by certain clubs who just have one or two successful teams. For the larger clubs the success in one division is often matches by poor results in another.
