  3. TOP LEVEL BATTING & BOWLING STAKES
9th September 2021 by Mick Cotter

TOP LEVEL BATTING & BOWLING STAKES

As we look forward to the BUAKIT Premier League Final, it is worth reviewing where things stand on the main individual awards stakes.

Batting (Marchant Cup)

Following a number of years of dominance by John Andersonof Merrion Cricket Club (who has won this Cup for the past 3 years), it is looking most likely that the top level individual batting award for 2021 will go to Theo Lawson of Pembroke Cricket Club.

John Anderson is, unsurprisingly, right up there in the run scoring stakes again this year

Whilst in aggregate John has scored 99 runs more than Theo, Theo has a material advantage in terms of batting average and goes into the Final with a 22-run advantage per innings. It would take a remarkable set of circumstances for there not to be a new name on this trophy for 2021.

Theo Lawson leads the way in the race for the Marchant Cup

A notable mention for Mitchell Thompson of YMCA Cricket Club whose aggregate of 359 runs included his first 2 senior hundreds.

Bowling (O’Grady Cup)

On the bowling side, whilst Fionn Hand of Clontarf Cricket Club is in pole position for the O’Grady Cup this year, he can no longer improve on his stats as his club season has concluded which leaves an opportunity for either Jack Carty or Tom Stanton (both of Merrion Cricket Club) to overtake him with a strong individual performance in the Final against Pembroke on Saturday.

Tom Stanton (above) and Jack Carty (below) both have a chance to make a late charge at the O’Grady Cup in this Saturday’s final

As you can see from the table above, Jack Carty is averaging 11.6 (just 0.3 off Fionn Hand’s average) whilst Tom Stanton has also taken 22 wickets at 12.7 (a difference of 1.4).

We will update further on this after the Finals weekend!
