Solomons Shared for First Time in Seven Years as Lynch and Chester Tie at the Top

Cricket Leinster are delighted to announce the joint winners of the Solomons Cup for leading outfielder in 2020 are Séamus Lynch of Terenure CC, and Phoenix CC captain Adam Chester, as both managed 8 catches each across the shortened season.

Chester, in his second year leading the Phoenix side, becomes the first name on the trophy from his club since David Langford-Smith claimed it back-to-back in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, whilst there hasn’t been a Terenure/CYM victor since Davy van der Walt in 2000, a couple of years before their newest winner was even born!

Terenure however have had a decent record in fielding awards in recent years, with Conor Mullen and Dónal Lynch both sharing the Vincent Cup in 2017, and captain Dónal Vaughan claiming the same cup outright in 2019.

For Phoenix skipper Chester, his medal can take pride of place alongside consecutive league titles which he’s won playing for MU Barnhall in the AIL Rugby leagues the past two seasons, in many ways, a dual-code star!

Meanwhile, for Séamus Lynch, it’s a culmination of a fine season for the Emerging Academy young-gun. Whilst here he is winning accolades for his fielding, his batting caught the eye of many across the province, particularly in the early weeks of the season. He finished 5th in the run-scoring table for the LHW Financial Planning Senior League Cup, and was the only youth player in the competition to pass the 200 run mark.

He’s also in good company in winning the Solomons Cup as a youth, the previous two players to win the award as youth players were Jack and Harry Tector, in 2013 and 2017 respectively. No doubt Lynch will be hoping he can make strides similar to that pair when it comes to representative cricket in years to come.

Congratulations from all at Cricket Leinster to Séamus and Adam on their success in this award in 2020!
