  3. Rush and Cork County the big rankings winners
10th July 2015 by Paul Reynolds

Rush and Cork County the big rankings winners

It was a weekend of league action across the island last weekend, with most games going as was expected. However there were a good few surprises along the way, and those teams are the ones that are this week's biggest movers.

Cork County travelled to Railway Union and came away with the points. It lifted the sole Munster side in the rankings to 19th, the first time that they have been in the top 20. Railway surprisingly also went up a point, courtesy of Lisburn losing to North Down.

Rush beat Leinster in Rathmines, continuing Leinster's slide. At the end of the 2012 season, they were in 5th place, and now find themselves in 27th. Rush are now just one place behind them in 28th. Rush have not finished a season in that high a position since 2009, with their best year also being a 5th place finish - back in 2007.

In the NCU, there were plenty of losses amongst the top teams. Instonians beat Waringstown, before losing to Civil Service North, before Waringstown bounced back to beat CIYMS. Muckamore were the biggest movers (excepting Academy, whose ranking is still in settling down period), going up two places after beating Lurgan.

In the NW, there wasn't oo much of change at the top, with Coleraine, Donemana and Brigade remaining in 8th, 9th and 10th. Donemana lost on Sunday to Ardmore, and it was Ardmore who were the big change, going up four to 23rd. This is undoubtedly the best Ardmore side in the  last 15 years - according to the rankings anyway.

League action continues this weekend. In Leinster, Merrion (5) play Railway Union (18), Cork County (19) host Pembroke (12), YMCA (2) play Malahide (15) and North County (13) host Clontarf (3). In Division 2, Leinster (27) play Balbriggan (37), Rush (28) host Phoenix (32) and Terenure (35) play The Hills (5). On Sunday, Cork County host Clontarf in the Leinster Senior Cup semi final.

The NCU takes a week off due to the WCT20Q, whilst in the North West, Strabane (16) host Bready (21), Eglinton (17) play St Johnston (31) and in possibly the match of the day, Coleraine (8) play Brigade (10)
