Report on the Cricket Ireland AGM

The Cricket Ireland AGM took place in Dundalk on 26^th April.

Dr Murray Power takes over from Joe Doherty as President for the coming season. Henry Tighe was confirmed as President Elect. Ross McCollum continues as Chairman of Cricket Ireland. The directors on the Board from the LCU are Henry Tighe and Eddie Lewis. Bill Cunningham joins the Board and takes over as Chairman of the Finance Committee. Alan Lewis, Roger McGreal and Frank Sowman continue as independent Directors.

The outgoing President in an address to the meeting highlighted the great strides that Irish Cricket had taken in the past year both on and off the field. Warren Deutrom [CEO], who also spoke outlined many of the challenges facing the sport if it is to achieve its ambition to participate at the highest international level in all forms of the sport. A new strategic plan is being prepared that will form the framework for development over the next important period.

Some key issues that are being advanced through the ICC at present are

• the expansion in the programme of one-day matches now that Ireland has been included in the 12 team top tier for ODI cricket,

• the enhancement of the status of the Interprovincial Series [3D] so that it will in the future be counted as a ‘First Class’ competition, and

• discussions on the precise format for qualification for the next ‘ten-team’ World Cup.
