Quest for Div 1 individual trophies starts

Traditionally at this time of the year, an email would appear in an inbox, with news from Gerry Byrne as to who the runners and riders were in the race to lift Cricket Leinster's individual batting, bowling, fielding and allrounder awards for each of the top divisions in the Open Competitions. Gerry has taken a step back as he concentrates on collating and organising Cricket Leinster's extensive archives, and so this year's averages come in an ever so slightly different format. However, if it ain't broke, etc. so not too much has changed!

Our round up of averages so far this season, starts at the top, with the Division 1 averages. These include all performances for the teams in Division 1, including the Leinster Senior Cup (but excluding the Irish Senior Cup and the Alan Murray T20), with only those eligible to play cricket for Ireland being eligible to lift the trophies.

All matches to the end of May are included.

Highest Batting average in Division 1 - Marchant Cup (current qualification - 100 runs)

Adrian Darcy's wonderful century for Clontarf in last week's Leinster Senior Cup tie against Leinster sees him top of the pile, with 114 runs this season, unbeaten. North County's West Indian overseas player is next, with two 50s already at an average of 69. Cork County captain, Stephan Grobler is in third, whilst a century last week for YMCA's Jack Tector sees him having the very impressive 182 runs at 60.67. Incidentaly, Tector must now be one of a very select bunch of players with a Senior hundred, as well as a Senior 8 wicket haul. Answers on a postcard please.
