  3. Playing Numbers: Mid Year Checkpoint
15th June 2017 by Eddie Lewis

Playing Numbers: Mid Year Checkpoint

Although players will continue to join the league throughout the season, it is possible from the numbers registered and recorded as playing so far to get a general idea around participation at provincial and club levels.

To start with registration - on the 14th June 2471 players were registered for all forms of cricket [and 2239 for Open Competitions].  Out of the total registered number there are 592 youth players [447 boys / 145 girls]. Not all of these will actually take part in adult competitions during the year. There are 278 players registered for Women competitions [there are players registered for both Open and Women].

Of the adult players [and focussing on Open Competitions] the breakdown in terms of cricketing origins [where someone learnt their cricket] is just under two-thirds non-Irish to one-third Irish. This is roughly in line with the distribution last year. Looking at the breakdown from [other] Test Playing countries: -

Looking at the numbers who have actually turned out so far this season in Open Competitions we see that just 1662 [before last weekend] have played in at least one match. This suggests that there are still a lot of players waiting in the wings for a call up. The breakdown by club is as follows.

In terms of the number of matches per player - 268 have turned out once this season so far, 788 between 2 and 4 times, 822 from 5 to 9 and there have been 51 hyper active players playing 10 or more games.

These of course are only mid-season figures. A final and more detailed analysis will be published at the end of the season.
