Phoenix Cricket Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Stephen Moreton as the club’s new Head Coach.
The appointment represents a significant change in direction for Phoenix. Stephen will have overall responsibility for coaching Men’s, Women’s and Youth Cricket in a non-playing capacity.
Phoenix Cricket Club is focused on building a sustainable model for the future and establishing a culture all of our members can be proud of. We recognise our place as a historic and proud cricket club in Ireland and are committed to bringing our performances on the field up to the level our club deserves.
We are rebuilding across the club, and there are opportunities for current and new members to play and compete at top levels of Irish Cricket. Stephen’s appointment represents an investment in the members of the club at all levels.
Stephen has extensive coaching experience, with the Senior Ireland Women’s Team; all of the Men’s age-group sides and has supported the Wolves and Academy recently. He has previously been Head Coach of clubs in Ireland and New Zealand, Birmingham University in the UK, and has also coached in Australia. As a player, he has First-Class experience and several years of UK 2XI county cricket experience at Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.
While leading Cricket Ireland’s Coach Education programme, he was part of a team that drove and implemented a cultural shift in coaching philosophy and practice across Europe and the UK - to a player-centred model that focuses upon developing each individual, their unique style and growing the responsibility in the player for their own learning and development.
Stephen will work with all of our teams, and his vast experience and cricketing knowledge will be an invaluable asset to Phoenix and all its current and future members,
“I am very proud to have been given the opportunity to lead Phoenix Cricket Club in an exciting and challenging new direction. The natural resources of the club are outstanding, as is the legacy and history of the club. I have been away from the game for 3 years, focusing upon coaching, facilitation and strategy in other areas of business and sport – and I am looking forward to applying those experiences to help Phoenix back to the forefront of Irish cricket, across the board.”
2019 promises to be an exciting one both on and off the field for all at Phoenix. A club that belongs at the top table of Irish Cricket but also an inclusive one that provides cricket opportunities for all.
