This morning saw Merrion and Clontarf battle it out for the Gresham House U13 Girls Cup.

Clontarf won the toss and elected to bowl on an overcast morning at Anglesea Road, that decision initially looked a good one and Harte was removed in the first over off the bowling of O’Toole while Wilson Moore soon followed. This brought together what proved to be the mainstay of Merrion innings in Molins and Purdy, the latter adding 24 in a partnership of 65 alongside Molins. When O’Toole returned to the attack she quicky removed Purdy putting an end to an excellent partnership. From there Molins played very sensibly to shepherd her side up to 116, eventually finishing with 53*.

When the chase got underway, Merrion set about suffocating their opponents, allowing only 39 runs to come from the first 9 overs, crucially for Clontarf, however, only 1 wicket had been lost. Poynter and Cosgrave, having been circumspect at first, grew in confidence as their partnership progressed. They added between them a further 72 in the next 10 overs eventually leaving themselves needing 7 off the final over, Poynter on 37* and Cosgrave on 38*. Unfortunately for Clontarf a couple of run outs in the final over left them with too much to do off the last ball as Merrion ran out winners by the barest of margins, a single run.

Cricket Leinster would like to thank Gresham House for their support of our Youth Competitions in 2025.
