Lightning confident of wrapping up the 3-day title in Waringstown

The Leinster Lightning selectors have named another strong squad to take on the Northern Knights in our fourth and final Newstalk 106-108fm Inter-Provincial Championship match in Waringstown Cricket Club from the 12th to the 14th August.

Fit-again vice captain, John Anderson returns to the 3-day squad having missed the defeat of the North-West Warriors in Malahide in early July battling a groin injury. His inclusion will hopefully shore up a top-order which has battled for consistency in the competition this year. Anderson replaces Railway Union’s Pat Collins who was not available selection having unfortunately fractured two of his toes playing for his club last weekend.

After the disappointment of being denied the opportunity of attempting to defend our Inter-Provincial T20 title last Sunday due to a wash-out in Pembroke, the squad needs no futher motivation to put in a strong performance and claim our fourth championship win from four this season. The defeat of the Warriors followed a comprehensive 157 run victory over the Knights in College Park and a hard-fought 4 wicket win against the Warriors in Bready back in May all of which means that we take a 43 point lead over the Knights into our final match. The Knights do have a game in hand however. With the winner claiming 16 points, victory would ensure the successful defence of the title for the Lightning.

Leinster Lightning squad to face Northern Knights, Tuesday 12 August – Thursday 14 August, Waringstown:

John Mooney (Capt – North County)

John Anderson (Vice-captain – Merrion)

Ben Ackland (Merrion)

Bill Coghlan (Clontarf)

Tyrone Kane (Merrion)

Fintan McAllister (Malahide)

Cormac McLoughlin (The Hills)

Andrew Poynter (Clontarf)

Eddie Richardson (North County)

Simmi Singh (YMCA)

Max Sorensen (The Hills)

Albert van der Merwe (YMCA)

The first ball will be bowled at 11am each day and admission is free.

Hours of Play: 11am-6:30pm, Lunch: 1:15pm-1:55pm, Tea: 4:10pm-4:30pm.

A minimum of 104 overs is scheduled to be bowled each day.
