  3. Greystones’ veteran trio chase McGovern -
19th August 2015 by Paul Reynolds

Greystones’ veteran trio chase McGovern -

Plenty of water has passed under the bridge since our last look at Division 4, less a trickle than a flood of Niagara proportions.

Malahide 2 and North County 2 have taken the division by the scruff of the neck since mid-July, and both are now only a few points away from promotion. In fact, Malahide can secure promotion with a win at home to Greystones this weekend.

Slightly furhter back, the next four clubs - Dundrum, Civil Service, Railway Union and Greystones are probably too far back to make a title challenge, but also have the luxury of knowing there is a good way back to the bottom two - YMCA 3 and Merrion 3.

So with the league standings not offering too much in the way of on the edge of your seat excitement, can the hunt for the individual trophies be closer?

Highest Batting average in Division 4 - (current qualification - 250 runs)

The batting averages present two tales. The are dominated by North County's Niall McGovern, whose phenonemal season continues . Six of his nine innigs have seen him pass 50, and it is difficult to see him being caught.

Just behing Niall McGovern, the "experienced" Greystones trio of Moffatt, Fitzsimons and Drane have all had solid seasons, although that has not yet filtered through to Greystones' league position. With games in hand, Greystones may well surge up the table at the back end of the season.

Lowest Bowling average in Division 4 - (Current Qualification - 14 wkts)

With the qualification now moving up to 14 wickets, another Greystones player sees himself at the top of the bowling averages. Sukeel Venkatramani leads, with a good four run cushion over Malahide's Glenn Kirwan.

Leading allrounder in Division 4- (Qualification - 125 runs and 7 wickets/dismissals - 1 pt for each run, 20 pts for each wkt, ctch or stmp)

The allrounder's award looks to be heading either the way of the old warhorse, John Moffat (who is a true allrounder, with runs, wickets and dismissals) and Civil Service's Mubasher Siddique. Glenn Kirwan and Jamie Grassi look to be the only others with a chance.
