DUCC statement on parking in Trinity

I would like to provide some information regarding parking in College Park for visiting teams. Unfortunately this issue causes significant frustration for all and has proved an insurmountable challenge to the officers of DUCC.

The Cricket Club do not own the pitch, pavilion or other amenities which belong to the College. As such college authorities have sole and total responsibility for all aspects of the management of the grounds including parking. Members of the cricket club have made frequent representations over the years to the Department of Sport and through them to Estates and Facilities who have overall responsibility for things like parking.

The only concession we have been able to achieve is that parking places be reserved for umpires. The relevant page from the TCD website which gives more information on parking in college can be found here.

The members and officers of DUCC share the frustration of our visitors in respect of this issue and I can assure you that it is a source of embarrassment for us but it seems that it is something we are unlikely to be able change. Despite what some may think it certainly is not some form of gamesmanship from the poor students who can’t afford cars anyway!

I hope this will help people understand our situation and maybe they will be able to see the silver lining in the cloud in that i.e. means cars may have to be left at home leaving little excuse not to have a pint or two in the Pav!
