  3. Division 1 round up and averages
27th July 2015 by Paul Reynolds

Division 1 round up and averages

With low cloud, heavy drizzle, and worse enveloping Leinster yesterday, the only Division 1 match to escape the worst of the conditions was in Cork, where Cork County entertained Railway Union. Both teams find themselves in the bottom half of the table, and even at this stage of the season, the match had a feel of a relegation clash. That is possibly a little harsh - Pembroke and Malahide find themselves in a similar situation - but a Railway Union loss would have left them with a lot of work to do.

After the match had been reduced to 30 overs, Railway were soon in trouble at 38-3. Crucially Kenny Carroll was unbeaten, and once Rachit Gaur joined him in adding 54 for the fourth wicket,  the Lightning and Ireland star was to prove the difference between the two sides. By the end of the innings, Carroll had scored a masterful 101 ball 95*, as Railway finished on 171-6.

Cork County's reply stuttered from the work go, and they never really looked like over hauling the visitor's total. No player got more than 17 (Robin Russell), but it was Rachit Gaur who was the Railway star with the ball, as he took prized wickets of Russell, O'Keefe and Durity to finish with 4-10 from 4.5 overs. Railway move up to 5th place from 6th, whilst Cork stay in 7th.

The other three games were all rained off, and will be refixed as T20 matches. Details of these refixes will be published on the site as soon as we are notified. It is easy to think that the Division 1 season has been blighted by rain, but in fact only three matches have had to be refixed as mid week T20s.

The averages have not been updated since the last round of matches ,and these now include the matches played on July 11th and 12th

Highest Batting average in Division 1 - Marchant Cup (current qualification - 250 runs)

David Rhoda stays at the top - in fact there has been little change in the top five, with YMCA's Jack Tector being the leading Irish qualified player. The two players who played this weekend had contrasting fortunes. Stephan Grobler of Cork County has dropped to 11th, whilst Railway's Kenny Carroll has now passed the qualification mark, and comes into 10th.

Lowest Bowling average in Division 1 - O'Grady Cup (Current Qualification - 12 wkts)

The qualifcation mark has moved up to 12 wickets, which means Merrion's David Rhoda is now excluded. Rachit Gaur's season best 4-10 at the weekend has meant he has stayed in the charts. Eddie Richardson of North County stays in top spot with 20 wickets at 11.35 - Clontarf's overseas player Michael Granger is the leading wicket taker with 21.
