It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Tommy McGeady, long standing member of Merrion CC and former President of the Leinster Cricket Union. Tom played for many years on the junior teams in Merrion, and even had a couple of games on the 1st XI. Tom held virtually every office within Merrion, from Honorary Secretary, to Team Secretary, to Youth Co-ordinator. He was President from 1979-1983 and 1995-1997. He served on the Leinster Cricket Union in many capacities and was President in 1984-1985. Tom working in the UCD Department of Veterinary Anatomy, and was Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine from 1990-1996. He had a keen interest in many sports and was at one time President of the UCD Rugby Club.
Up until his death he continued to attend matches at Anglesea Road and was a member of the LCU Appeals Board. He will be remembered by all as a gentleman, always courteous and helpful. For those who go back far enough they might recall an obdurate bat and not too flamboyent wicket keeper. RIP
