Concussion policy and Safety
Cricket Leinster has today published the Concussion Policy which sets out for clubs, and all involved, the recommended processes for dealing with incidents. Along with other documents, this document is meant to assist clubs in understanding what their responsibilities are.
Clubs are reminded that keeping the game as safe as possible and looking after the safety of players are of critical importance.
The fundamentals should not be overlooked including ensuring that first-aid kits are available and fully stocked, and also that ice packs are available.
Defibrillators sometimes are available but are often locked away so where they are and who is qualified to use them needs to be known; they also need to be maintained.
Basic information should be available on noticeboards including the nearest A&E/ Emergency Dept, local doctors on-call etc.
It is also important that clubs have persons qualified in first-aid and first responder processes, as not all games have qualified medics available.
While we all hope that accidents do not happen, it has to be accepted that they do and clubs need to be prepared for when they do.
Please take time to review the Policy and continue to make Safety a priority in your Club.
