  3. Achieving 1000 runs in a season.
9th June 2017 by Eddie Lewis

Achieving 1000 runs in a season.

With access to the Data Centre anyone can produce batting and bowling averages [and much more] for all leagues at any time. For this reason we have not felt it necessary to provide monthly averages. From time to time, however, it is interesting to reflect on certain targets or milestones and put them in their historical context.

One of the best known milestones in County Cricket is 1000 runs before the end of May. It has only been achieved eight times, the last being Graham Hick for Worcestershire in 1988. The equivalent for club cricket in Leinster might well be 1000 for a team in a season.

A review of the Leinster Senior Records have identified 21 occasions where this has occurred. The first was Neville Daniels for Carlisle in 1981. The latest Daniel Solway for Pembroke in 2016. One player has achieved the feat four times - Jeremy Bray [Phoenix] between 1998 and 2003. He also holds the record for the most runs in a season - 1273 - in 2000. Is there any chance of anyone achieved the target this year.

With just over a quarter of the league played [and of course a cup run providing additional opportunities] three players have scored more than 250 runs and must therefore be counted as in with chance. Two of the players are from Merrion who, of course, are still in the IBI Leinster Senior Cup a run in which can help reach the 1000 run target.

The list of players who scored 1000 runs in a season from the Leinster Senior is as follows:

Are there any players who have scored 1000 runs in the season below Senior [RCD1/ RCD2 and IBI LSC]. For this we only have records going back to 2011.  So far no player [other than those already mentioned] have reached the 1000 target - unless one includes also T20 Competitions. On this basis [and allowing a player to compete across different divisions] is anyone likely to reach 1000 runs in the season. So far there are no less than 9 players who have scored over 300 runs [excluding T20s]. Conor Fletcher [Balbriggan] is well out in front with 472 mainly in D5. Other players in the frame include Ahmed Shovon [Pembroke] on 407 [D5/D8], Ali Hashmi [Lucan] on 378 [D11], Vikas Dhiman [Merrion] on 351 [D2/D3/D4], Harry Archer [The Hills] on 345 [D1/D3/D8], Sheraz Tariq [Longford] on 336 [D5], Declan Moore [Ringcommons] on 327 [D7], Sandeep Shahdeo [Cabinteely] on 327 [D10], and Syed Mehdi [Balbriggan] on 306 [D5]

Postscript: One player since 2011 has scored 1000 runs across multiple leagues / cups [not T20]. Khizar Khan [Railway] scored 1006 [D4/D5/D6 & Middle Cup] in 2013
