Now that the season has finished and all the Inter-Provincial trophies are again resting in the Lightning’s trophy cabinet we have a few announcements to make.
It is with regret that we announce the following:
John Anderson has stepped down as the Lightning Captain. John has captained the team to two treble-winning seasons since taking over the reins from John Mooney at the start of the 2016 season.
When asked about his decision he remarked "It has been a huge honour to captain my province for the past two seasons - an experience I will never forget. I'd like to thank everyone involved with the Lightning who has supported and assisted me throughout and without whom the team could never have achieved the success it has over the last few years. Specifically, I'd like to thank the coaches I captained under, Albert van der Merwe and Ted Williamson as well as the team manager Mark Jones, who’s’ efforts have been immense. Thanks also to all the players for their dedication, commitment and drive to win games of cricket. I'm extremely proud of what the team has achieved and it's been a privilege to lead such a talented group of players."
John thinks that now is the right time to pass the baton on to someone else and has stated that he is still fully committed and available to play for the team. On behalf of all at the Lightning we would like to thank John for all his hard work and professionalism during the last two seasons and for the success that he has brought to the province.
Greg Molins has stepped down as Chairman of the Lightning selectors. Greg has been a selector since the reintroduction of the Inter-Provincial matches back in 2013 and has also represented the Lightning as an Irish Selector for the past two years. Following a Cricket Ireland re-structure, he no longer holds this position.
Greg has overseen the Lightning’s unprecedented success, winning 13 out of the 15 trophies that has been up for grabs. He’s been a visible presence around the grounds and has put in a huge amount of work contributing in no small way to the success of the Lightning. The players and coaching staff would like to thank Greg for all his hard work.
Adam Sullivan has stepped down as theLightning strength and conditioning coach. Adam is moving to England where he is completing a Doctorate in Sports Science with Liverpool FC and Liverpool University. Since becoming involved four years ago Adam has been a breath of fresh air - coming from a GAA background and not having any cricket knowledge, he quickly learned what the game was about and added great energy, enthusiasm, professionalism and even laughter to all aspects of his work. Adam became a very popular figure in the dressing room and his warm ups are now the stuff of legend. We wish Adam all the best with his career in Liverpool.
