  3. THE HILLS AND CLONTARF PROGRESS TO ALAN MURRAY CUP FINAL!
22nd July 2022 by Mick Cotter

THE HILLS AND CLONTARF PROGRESS TO ALAN MURRAY CUP FINAL!

There were a pair of comprehensive victories in the respective LHK Insurance Alan Murray Cup, as The Hills and Clontarf both booked their places in the final, which is to be played on August 1st in Sydney Parade, alongside the Women’s Sprint Coatings Senior Cup Final which takes place earlier in the day.

PHOENIX VS CLONTARF

In the Phoenix Park, Clontarf were hugely indebted to their Munster Reds star David Delany, as his 73 guided the side in an otherwise muddling innings to a passable total of 144/4, Tyrone Kane was the pick of the Phoenix bowlers taking 1/21 from his allocation of 4 overs, whilst debutant Luke Georgeson picked up of PJ Moor in the 1st over of the innings as he finished with 1/26 from his 4.

In reply, only Louis McDonough’s 28 could offer any sort of decent resistance alongside consistency of scoring, as and excellent spell of bowling from teenager Luke Thomson, taking 3/15 from his four overs, including the wickets of key men, Georgeson and Tyrone Kane, strangled the home side through the vital period between the 7th and 14th overs and put Clontarf on top.

A tight final four overs between David Delany and Mick Granger ensured Phoenix couldn’t piece together a late counter attack, restricting the home side to 122 from their 20 overs, and a 22 run victory for the Castle Avenue side.

THE HILLS VS NORTH COUNTY

Meanwhile in The Vineyard, The Hills were comprehensive winners in the Fingal derby. The away side batted first, and only Eddie Richardson with 32 could manage any level of resistance as Jonathan Tall and Dylan Blignaut both took three wickets each, whilst there were two for Levon Shields as County were rolled over for just 78 inside 17 overs of their innings.

It was an evening to relish for The Hills faithful, as they could witness Murray Commins’ return from injury in full flight, entering the fray in the 4th over after the wicket of Cormac McLoughlin-Gavin, he stroked a magnificent 45* from just 22 balls, including five boundaries and three maximums in an unbeaten 63 run stand with Shields, as the home side made their way to their victory in the 10th over.
