All at Cricket Leinster are shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Stan Mitchell of Phoenix CC.

Stan was educated at Foyle College in the NW and initially played his club cricket at Donemana before joining Phoenix CC where he was a leading member of the legendary Phoenix First team in the 1970s and 80s. Over the two decades, Phoenix won one Irish Senior Cup, six Leinster Senior Leagues, seven Leinster Senior Cups, four Wiggins Teape titles and three Alan Murray Cups and Stan was at the centre of this success, captaining the club in 4 different periods.
Stan was a permanent member of the Phoenix First XI from 1972 to 1992 during which time he amassed over 6,000 senior runs at an average of 22.65 runs per innings including 32 scores of 50 or more and one hundred during the 1984 season.

Stan represented North Leinster in the old Guinness Cup IP competition and also won three caps for Ireland in 1974. He was captain of his club in 1975 when his club side won the treble of the Leinster Senior Cup, Wiggins Teape League (as it was then) and Leinster Senior League. Stan served a term as President of Cricket Ireland in 2005 (taking over from the late Bob Kerr) and was also a Past President of his beloved Phoenix CC.

Through his company (Dublin Grass Machinery), Stan contributed hugely to cricket in Leinster as a sponsor and in more recent years as a faithful and enduring patron, a man of the highest respect and integrity. Stan was also a generous supporter of Lords Taverner’s Ireland (our charity partners).
We extend our deepest sympathies to his son Robert, daughter Jane and all the Mitchell family at this very difficult time. We are also thinking of Stan's many friends at Phoenix CC and right across the club cricket community on the island.
May Stan rest in eternal peace.
