This evening saw the LHK Middle Cup final take place between Pembroke CC and Ashbourne CC. Pembroke ran out winners off the back of a fighting team display with both the bat and ball.

Pembroke lost the toss and were put in to bat, a coin flip they were no doubt ruing for much of the first half of their batting effort as they were reduces to 71/6 inside 10 overs, the only bright spot for the D4 side in that period Harry St Leger’s 36. The mainstay of the second half of the innings was a partnership of 65 between the skipper Sahil Manchanda and Saptarshi Sen. Manchanda eventually finished not out on 65 from 42 balls as his side posted 149/8 from their 20 overs.

The Ashbourne chase got off to the worst possible start losing Kodandarama off the first ball of the innings to Nair. After this they were able to create partnerships but never at the rate that was required to get them in a position to be ahead of the game. Anjani Bonam was the backbone of their batting effort but when he was removed for a fine 56, there was too much to do for a wilting tail as they ran out eventual losers by 14 runs, Rian Nair the pick of the bowlers with 3/21.

Cricket Leinster would like to thanks LHK for their continued support of Cricket in Leinster over the last few years. We would also like to thank Lucan Cricket Club, they were brilliant hosts for both the teams.
