  3. OCC: Halfway Checkpoint.
18th July 2015 by Eddie Lewis

OCC: Halfway Checkpoint.

It is pretty close to the halfway mark of the league season. The number of matches played is generally just short of 50% [see table below]. How are the various competitions progressing.

Most Successful Teams
In terms of the most successful teams in the league two stand out with over 90% [percentage of possible points on offer] and they are Leinster VII [D14] and Adamstown II [D12]. Four other teams are performing strongly with 85% or higher - Phoenix III [D5], Slieve Bloom [D10], YMCA V [D11] and Civil Service IV [D15]. Of course one should also include The Hills [D2] where aggregate points rather than % will determine the league. If converted to percentages they would have 87.5%

Most Successful Clubs
Which clubs are doing best in league competitions overall? The two outstanding clubs this year at this stage of the season are Adamstown and North County. All five of Adamstown’s teams are in the top three of the leagues they are competing in, with Adamstown III [D12] in poll position. Arguably North County are doing even better with three of their sides topping their Divisions [D1, D6 and D9] and a fourth in RU position. Mention should also be made of Merrion which has five of its eight teams in the top three places, with Merrion II leading in D3.

Most Open Divisions
Always difficult to determine this. There are a few runaway leaders [@10% ahead of runners up and 20% ahead of the third placed team] with YMCA V [D11], Leinster VII [D14], Civil Service IV [D15] and Carlow [D16] in strong positions. To these can be added The Hills who are well in charge of D2 and perhaps also Malahide II who have a clear lead in D4. The four closest leagues are in D1, where less than 20 points [one win] separates the top three teams, and a clutch of mid table leagues from D6 to D8.

Top Teams in Club
It is always interesting to see how the top teams from a club are doing. In D1 and D2 it is North County and The Hills, but other than this Wexford [D7], Slieve Bloom [D10] and Carlow [D16] are leading their Divisions. Other teams in the top four in a good position to challenge for promotion are Laois [D3], Dundrum [D4], Knockharley and Adamstown [D6], Dundalk [D10], Lucan [D11], and Ashbourne [D16].
