  3. Malahide and North County consolidate in Div 4

Malahide and North County consolidate in Div 4

The two top sides in Division 4, Malahide 2 and North County 2 both faced tricky away encounters against mid table opposition last weekend, and both came away with the points.

Andy Pyne (70) scored his first 50 away from Malahide for two years, as Malahide got to 184-4 against Railway Union 2 in a match that was reduced to 35 overs per side after rain reared its ugly face before the match. Malahide's Joey Jennings reeled back the years, ripping out the first two wickets, helping to reduce Railway to 27-3. No Railway batsman got set, with no one passing 30. Jennings finished with 4-17 - his best since returnnig to Malahide in 2014.

North County travelled to Civil Service, without their talismanic run scorer, Niall McGovern. At 97-6, Service were on top, but a partnership of 80 for the 7th wickete between Kashif Ali (31) and Darren Bertram (32) turned the tide, helping the Balrothery side to 204 all out.

Civil Service's innings followed a similar pattern, although without the 7th wicket recovery. They finished 146 all out, with Darren Bertram completing a fine game with 4-22, the first time Bertram has passed 30 and taken four wickets in the same match.

With Greystones still stuck on two matches, Malahide and North County will not have it their own way, but it looks like a shoot out between those three and Dundrum for the title.

Highest Batting average in Division 4 - (current qualification - 100 runs)

None of the leading batsmen were playing - Andy Pyne is the highest mover, coming in to 5th place after his 70. Qualification is going to be moving up next week, so expect some changes!

Lowest Bowling average in Division 4 - (Current Qualification - 8 wkts)

Neil Boyne took 3-17 (an improvement on his average) and Glenn Kirwan took 2-38 (a dedline for his average). The Greystones pair of Lambert and Venkatramani stay top, and with a lot of cricket to be played, by Greystones, they may take a lot more wickets.
