Leinster Schools were narrowly beaten by a strong MCC team in a sun-drenched Civil Service CC ground in the heart of the Phoenix Park.

MCC won the toss and batted first. Their innings was in large part underlined by a 111-run second wicket partnership between Merrion’s Swapnil Modgill and Ben Jarman. Modgill became the first of Arthur Morphew’s five victims but not before he had scored a rapid 94 off just 60 balls (8X4, 7X6).

There were important middle order runs for Malahide’s Mohit Sane (43 off 31) and former Irish International James McCollum who contributed 24 before also falling victim to Morphew.

The MCC were eventually all out for 293 with 15 balls unused.
If Modgill had dominated the MCC innings, he was ultimately bested by Leinster Schools skipper Bruce Whaley who pummelled a brilliant 124 off just 64 balls including an incredible 22 boundaries.

Once Ryan Keenan was run out for a well made 24, Whaley followed soon after as part of a cluster of Leinster wickets.
Eli Clarke from The High School who also plays his club cricket at Pembroke took up the chase supported by Vihaan Puri from CUS. Clarke was eventually dismissed for 40 whilst Puri ran out of partners with the Schools side just 4 runs short of the MCC score.

Our thanks to Civil Service CC as the host club and Rob Delaney who coached/managed the Leinster Schools side.
The traditional schools interprovincial fixture is scheduled to take place over two days in June (Tuesday 23rd & Wednesday 24th) when Leinster Schools travel to Osborne Park in Balfast to play Ulster Schools.
