The ED Sports Premier League continues this evening with a full round of fixtures.
Last Thursday saw all of Clontarf, Malahide and Phoenix aiming to build on their week 1 victory and make it 2 from 2. However somewhat unexpectedly only Malahide were able to so. Phoenix fell at the hands of a Cate Pederson led Rush while Freya Sargent and Meg Thompson took apart Balbriggan to secure their second win of the season and finally Pembroke snuck past Clontarf by the tightest of margins to get their campaign back on track.

All of this gives the table a rather odd complexion with Malahide atop the table and incredibly have collected 50/50 available points, the 5 behind them are all on one win a apiece and between 20 and 25 points. Of course Merrion, The Hills, Leinster and Balbriggan now all have a game in hand having had byes in the opening two gameweeks.
The action this Thursday sees Balbriggan hosting Rush in an all Fingal affair, while Leinster make the trip to The Vineyard to take on The Hills, Merrion host Clontarf at Anglesea Road, while Phoenix will be at home to Malahide. Pembroke will have the week off after their rollercoaster win last week.
MERRION VS CLONTARF
Merrion were due to welcome Clontarf to Anglesea Road, however this game has been flipped to Castle Avenue due to issues beyond the Ballsbridge club’s control.
It would be a brave person to bet against Merrion being in the mix come August, they will however be without their batting linchpin in Bella Armstrong who is again unavailable this weekend due to International duty. In her absence there is no lack of strength however, the batting unit remains full of star power, with Leah Paul, Rebecca Stokell and the teenage sensation Aisling Lawlor all set to feature prominently, whilst Annabel Squires looks set to play a huge role at the top of the order in the absence of Armstrong.

Skipper Niamh MacNulty will lead the seamers, with support coming from Sibha Bhoja and Aoife Brennan, however it is the spin department where Merrion's depth is truly remarkable, with Paul’s left arm-spin, off-breaks from Julianne Morrissey and Ashwi Manoj and leggie Aisling Lawlor all set to feature in what is a formidable attack for the hosts to call upon.
Clontarf meanwhile will be keen to put last week's heartbreaking one-run defeat behind them and get their season back on track. The big news for the visitors is the return of Robyn Searle, who was a late addition last week but arrives in full flight this Thursday to join Christina Coulter-Reilly at the top of the order, with Genevieve Morrissey completing the top three. Coulter-Reilly remains the heartbeat of this batting unit, and she will once again be the key figure around whom the innings is built, with Rosie Neuman-Jones having made a bright start to the season and expected to contribute with both bat and ball, alongside Sinead Thompson in rounding out the top six.

With the ball, skipper Lucy Barry leads the attack, supported by a battery of young seamers in Morrissey, Thompson, Katie O'Toole, Anna Marshall and Aoibheann Synnott, in what is once again an attack operating without a frontline spinner this Thursday.
Niamh MacNulty will look to set the tone with the ball for her side come Thursday, Clontarf will always feel confident while Christina Coulter-Reilly is at the wicket. If McNulty can remove Coulter Reilly early, Merrion will be well on their way.
KEY BATTLE: Christina Coulter-Reilly vs Niamh MacNulty
BALBRIGGAN VS RUSH
The action at Jack Harper Park sees Balbriggan looking to shake off the cobwebs of their opening-round defeat, as they welcome a Rush side brimming with confidence after booking their place in the next round of the Senior Cup with a comprehensive midweek victory over The Hills.
The hosts will be eager to put last week's rusty display in Malahide firmly behind them, however there were positives to take from that outing, not least the excellent 76 from Julia Hoal, who announced herself in style on what was otherwise a difficult evening for the 'Brig. Skipper Lara Maritz will be looking to lead from the front once again, and she's set to feature prominently in a top order that boasts three excellent performers in Hoal, Courtney Gounden and Madison Landsman, a trio that on paper ought to provide the firepower needed to post competitive totals week in, week out.
The bowling attack will be spearheaded by Maritz herself, and she'll have plenty of support in the seam department from the likes of Erin Bond, Indie Harper and Robin Claxton, whilst the spin options come in the shape of Landsman and Gounden. It's an attack with variety, and one that will be hoping to make early inroads against a Rush batting line-up that has shown it can be destructive when given the platform to flourish.
Rush meanwhile arrive on the back of two excellent performances in the space of 4 days. Their sensational bowling display in round two saw Phoenix reduced to 10/6, a collapse from which the Park side never recovered, and that victory was followed up by Tuesday night's demolition job over The Hills in the cup.
The batting is led by overseas player Cate Pederson, who comes into this fixture fresh off a brilliant 77 on Tuesday and will be full of confidence. She'll be joined at the top of the order by Ellie McGee and Aisling Beggs, a trio that has the ability to set the tone early on. Mabel O'Donohoe and Georgia Wilson are set to feature prominently in the top five, and both bring the sort of game-changing ability that could prove crucial in the middle overs.

With the ball, Rush have plenty of options to call upon. O'Donohoe and McGee will likely share the bulk of the workload, however Pederson adds another dimension, whilst both Armstrong sisters, Darcie and Pippa, provide further variety in what is a well-rounded attack. The visitors will fancy their chances of exploiting any lingering uncertainty in Balbriggan's batting line-up, particularly if they can make early inroads.
The key battle in this fixture is likely to centre around Julia Hoal, who showed last week that she has the ability to take the game away from Rush if given time at the crease. If Ellie McGee can dismiss the South African early on, it will put the hosts firmly on the back foot and give Rush the upper hand in what promises to be a fascinating contest.
KEY BATTLE: Julia Hoal vs Ellie McGee
THE HILLS VS LEINSTER
The Vineyard sees The Hills looking to bounce back from a difficult week, as they welcome a Leinster side equally eager to put their opening-round disappointment behind them and get their 2026 campaign up and running.
The hosts have endured a testing start to the season, with their opening fixture proving a struggle, before Tuesday's Senior Cup exit compounded what has been a challenging few days for the Milverton outfit.
The arrival of Eve Meachen has been a significant boost for The Hills, and she wasted no time in announcing herself with a half-century on Tuesday. She'll be joined in the batting unit by the returning Jane Maguire, Rebecca Gough and Aimee Scollard, who is set to take the gloves in the absence of Abbi Harrison. Lara McBride once again misses this game, and is a big loss having been a mainstay at the top of the order of late.
With the ball, the return of Maguire may mean a reshuffling of the attack, with Tara O'Brien opening the bowling alongside her, allowing Meachen to bowl in the middle overs. Further seam options come in the shape of Gough and Caoimhe Scollard, whilst Neha Manoj’s left-arm orthodox will be the second spin option.

Leinster meanwhile will have been disappointed with how their opening round went against Malahide. They remain without the guts of their middle order, with neither Sophie McMahon nor Laura Delany available, however they are buoyed by the return of Ava Canning, who will lead the attack and provide a significant boost to a bowling unit that has lacked penetration in her absence.
The batting is spearheaded by openers Rebecca Rolfe and overseas player Alex Sheedy, with Loughran likely to slot in at number three. That trio will need to lay a solid platform if Leinster are to post a competitive total, particularly given the absence of firepower in the middle order.

With the ball, Canning will be supported in the seam department by Jenny Sparrow, Isabella Merriman and Orla Bagnall, however the lack of a frontline spinner means Leinster will be relying heavily on their seamers to do the bulk of the damage.
The key battle in this fixture is likely to centre around Eve Meachen, who comes into this game full of confidence after her half-century on Tuesday. If she can get on top early against Ava Canning's opening spell, it will put The Hills in a strong position and heap pressure on a Leinster side still searching for their first win of the season.
KEY BATTLE: Eve Meachen vs Ava Canning
PHOENIX VS MALAHIDE
The Phoenix Park sees the hosts looking to rebuild after a chastening defeat at Kenure last weekend, as they welcome a Malahide side riding high on the back of a sensational 10-wicket victory in round two that sees them sitting pretty with a perfect record and 50 points from 50.
Phoenix will be acutely aware of the size of the task facing them, not least because they will once again be without the services of international captain Gaby Lewis, who remains sidelined with a quad injury. Her absence places yet more onus on fellow internationals Georgina Dempsey and Alice Tector, both of whom will need to be at their best if the Park side are to turn things around. Siúin Woods and Arisha Foysal are also likely to feature in the top five.
The hosts are also missing the all-round capabilities of Zara Craig this Thursday, a blow that will be felt in both departments, however the return of Ali Keenan provides a welcome boost to the side.
Tector and Dempsey are likely to lead the way with the ball, with support in the seam department coming from Darcey Dalwood, whilst Arisha Foysal's leg-spin is the only spin option available to the side. The absence of Craig will be keenly felt here as well, and Phoenix will need their frontline bowlers to be on song.

Malahide meanwhile arrive in buoyant mood, and with good reason. Their comprehensive victory last time out was a statement of intent, and they will be looking to build on that performance this Thursday.
The batting is led by overseas player Meg Thompson, who brings a wealth of experience and quality to the top of the order. She'll be supported by a formidable unit that includes the likes of Arlene Kelly, Anna Kerrison, Freya Sargent and Haley Moore, a quintet that on their day can take any attack apart.
The bowling attack is full of options, and doubtless Phoenix will have their work cut out against the seam quartet of Maria O'Halloran, Sarah Brophy, Gemma Sargent and Sarah Condron. The spin department is equally well-stocked, with Anna Kerrison and Freya Sargent likely to play prominent roles, whilst Thompson will ensure things are kept tidy behind the stumps. It's an attack with variety and depth, and one that will fancy its chances of exploiting any lingering uncertainty after last Thursday in the Phoenix batting line-up.

The key battle in this fixture is likely to centre around Meg Thompson, who has been in sublime form to start the season for Malahide, however if Alice Tector can dismiss her early, it will give Phoenix a foothold in the tie.
KEY BATTLE: Alice Tector vs Meg Thompson
