The CL Under 23 District Cup competition is an important part of the pathway to the higher representative levels with teams representing South Leinster, North Leinster and Dublin University. It is intended as a high-performance pathway competition for players with potential to achieve selection for the Leinster Lightning Bolts and/or the higher levels.
It is designed to maximise the ‘representative’ opportunity for such players in particular those who no longer qualify for underage representative competitions but have potential to play at a higher level subject to development, exposure/opportunity and performance at both club and district levels.

The Perpetual Siggins Trophy and winners medals will be co-presented by the CL President (Brian Kelleher) and Ger Siggins (Dublin University) at the conclusion of the tournament.
The Leinster Lightning & Bolts Pathway Manager Andre Botha spoke enthusiastically about it's launch this season, and called on as many players as possible to get involved;
"For all U23 cricketers, I just want to send a message to highlight the importance of the competition. As you all know and probably seen already, there are only three Interprovincial teams this year and there are potentially a lot of very good players that are going to struggle to get competitive cricket.
With the U23 District Series being an important part of our pathway, it is also the next step to our Bolts team, which is wide open for selection this year. I want to encourage every player that is eligible for selection to make themselves available.

I can’t emphasise enough the importance of playing as much competitive cricket as you can and you as cricketers will determine the quality of cricket we are going to play in the District Series.
We also have an extra incentive attached to this competition for this year. We are going to pick a 12 man squad to play a red ball two day game against Munster Heat at the end of the season in Cork based on performances in this tournament.
So again, I want to encourage everyone to make themselves available and play as much competitive cricket as possible."
