  3. Ali’s 7 Wickets Leaves Terenure Punch Drunk
29th July 2018 by Brian Hamilton

Ali’s 7 Wickets Leaves Terenure Punch Drunk

Balbriggan travelled to Terenure with window wipers doing overtime in their cars. Having lost their last two games to Rush and Cork, it was a must win game if they were to avoid sliding down the table. But if play was capable anywhere in Leinster it was Terenure. On what we used to call a typical Irish Summer Day, Terenure won the toss and inserted Balbriggan. With a wet outfield and plenty of showers hanging around, Balbriggan were cautious at the start. The score had progressed to 55 when Conor Fletcher was caught by Donal Vaughan from the bowling of Sean O'Connor for 32. Farooq Nasr joined Harper until 33 runs later, Harper was caught by Michael Cotter off the bowling of Patrick Ryan for 26. Two runs later Nasr was caught by Diarmuid Lynch off the bowling of Patrick Ryan for 22. Balbriggan 3-90. Timcen Maruma and Adam Keefe then took control and batted nicely, taking the score to 146 where Timcen Maruma was caught by Brandon Graber from the bowling of Liam Harris for a well made 33. Nathan Rooney joined Adam Keefe for a short partnership when Adam Keefe was caught by Michael Cotter from the bowling of Diarmuid Lynch for 27. Ehtesham Ahmed joined Rooney for a quick partnership of 42 before Nathan Rooney was trapped lbw by Sean O'Connor for 27. Ehtesham Ahmed was last to fall bowled by Diarmuid Lynch for an enterprising 27. Abdul Samad not out 6 and Duane Harper not out 10 left Balbriggan 231 for 7 in 46 overs. The players were off the field a few times for rain.

Bowling conditions were difficult with the wet ball. Sean O'Connor 2-41, Patrick Ryan 2-54, Diarmuid Lynch 2-59 and Liam Harris 1-31 the wicket takers.

Terenure were set a target of 239 to win DLS. Kenny McDonald and Michael Cotter opened for Terenure. The score had reached 17 when Kenny McDonald was bowled by Kashif Ali for 11, his first victim. Four runs later Michael Cotter was bowled by Duane Harper for 8. The score progressed to 36 when Seamus Lynch was trapped lbw by Kashif Ali for 14. Ali was bowling beautifully and took the game by the scruff of the neck. Donal Vaughan bowled by Kashif Ali for 2. Brandon Graber was caught by Adam Keefe from the bowling of Kashif Ali for 5, his fourth wicket. Terenure now 5-61. Sean O'Connor was next to go caught by Farooq Nasr from the bowling of Ehtesham Ahmed for 8. Another three quick wickets fell to Ali, the man of the moment. Donal Lynch was caught by Abdul Samad from the bowling of Kashif Ali for 1, Liam Harris was again caught by Abdul Samad from the bowling of Kashif Ali for 15 and Josh Uddin caught by Farooq Nasr from the bowling of Kashif Ali for 0. Patrick Ryan was caught and bowled by Sayed Harris for 4 leaving Diarmuid Lynch not out 4. Terenure all out for 88. Kashif Ali ending up with 7 wickets.

Balbriggan's bowlers all bowled well with Kashif Ali having a day of days taking 7-48 from his 10 overs. Duane Harper 1-9, Sayed Harris 1-0 and Ehtesham Ahmed 1-24 the other wicket takers. A 150 run win for Balbriggan.
