Women’s league review (June 9th-15th)

Tuesday, 10th June

D1 - The Hills 1 V Leinster 1 - Senior Cup

This particular game started on Thursday the 5th of June, The Hills winning the toss and choosing to bat, Leinster were fielding and took 5 wickets before the clouds opened. The next available date was the 10th of June and LCC headed back out to north county Dublin for the remainder of the game. Leinster got The Hills all out for a low scoring 56 runs, with the top scoring coming from Lou Boylan 13 and A Mooney 10. Sue Kenealey and C Goodman taking 3 wickets each and A Kerrison finishing on 2.

R Rolfe started strong before being run out by V Fay-Watt and R Pope for 14, the next 3 wickets went fairly cheap with L Boylan and K Boylan teaming up in attack. Amy Kenealey and Valmai helped Leinster into the next round of the Cup off just 12.3 overs and Leinster won by 6 wickets.


D1 - Clontarf 1 V Pembroke 1 - Senior Cup

This was also a re-fix from the previous weeks weather interruptions. Pembroke now taking on Clontarf 3 times over the space of a week. Pembroke started strong and continued all the way through. Louise McCarthy bowling out 8 of the Clontarf batters for 1 run off 3.4 overs and Shauna Kavanagh getting the other with a LBW. Laura Cullen was the only player to hold her bat and Clontarf finished on 21 off 6.4 overs.

Pembroke opened with Cathy Murphy and Aideen McGuinness, Aideen not sticking around long and then Steph Barman going quick, women of the match Louise came into finish of the game and did so in emphatic style hitting a 6. Pembroke winning by 8 wickets in Park Avenue, and through to next round of the Cup.


D2 - Clontarf 2 V Railway Union 1 - to be Re-fixed


Wednesday, 11th June

D3 - Pembroke 2 V Greystones 1 - Sydney Parade

On a perfect night for cricket Greystones travelled to Sandymount for the second leg league match against Pembroke. This was always going to be a tough ask given the quality of Pembrokes bowling. Despite Greystones best efforts and a creditable 21 by Angela Garland they managed just 42 all out. Young Lou Little and Orla Pendergast taking 3 wickets each.

Pembroke needed just 11 overs to seal victory, with 4 batters chipping in and Becca Gallagher top scoring on 13. Aileen Fitzpatrick took two excellent wickets with 2 for 22 off 4. A very fine performance also by Caitlin Evans who fielded brilliantly.


D3 - Phoenix 1 V North Kildare 2 - Phoenix Park

Phoenix batted first and scored 158 for the loss of 2 wickets. V. Kelada top scored with 90 not out and H McGuckin got 25. In reply North Kildare reached 63 for 8. Orla Martin had figures of 3 overs 4 wickets for 3 runs (this included a hat trick). Her mother Sheila also took 2 wickets. Phoenix winning by 95 runs and moving to top of the Division 3 league having played 7 games and won 5.


D1 - North Kildare 1 V The Hills 1 - No scorecard entered yet


Thursday, 12th June

D1 - Pembroke 1 V Merrion 1 - Anglesea Road

This is always a tightly fought game and Merrion won the toss up front and chose to bat. Elane Tice and Kate McKenna opened and got Merrion of to a nice start. Tice getting 66 before being bowled by Ciara Metcalfe. Kate McKenna getting 20 and H McKay the other Merrion player getting into double figures with 18. Pembroke used 6 bowlers in their attack and Metcalfe picking up 4 wickets of her 4 overs, and Shauna Kavanagh getting the other. Merrion had 2 run outs and finished on 131 of their 20 overs.

Meg Kendal and Shauna Kavanagh doing most of the hard work up front, Meg ended up on 34 before being bowled by Tice and Shauna finished on 42 before being bowled by A Staunton. Louise McCarthy hit a quick 20 bringing PCC closer to their first win over Merrion this year. Cathy Murphy and C Metcalfe saw pembroke home and they won by 7 wickets in the 19th over and jumped to top of the Division 1 league.


D1 - Clontarf V Malahide 1 - Castle Ave

After a heavy midweek defeat by Pembroke, Clontarf set out all guns blazing for their first win of the season. Malahide winning the toss and putting Clontarf into bat, Clontarf started strong with U Raymond-Hoey and Laura Erskine, both getting double figures before departing. Laura Cullen and Olivia Golden were next out to the middle and made double figures before R Moore picked up the wicket of Laura for 19. Clontarf finished on 122 for 3 of their 20.

Malahide without Captain Mary Waldron started well in their chase. Eimear Gill getting 49 not out and in form Marianne Herbert getting 31. Malahide came up 15 runs short and Clontarf secured their first win of the season.


D1 - YMCA 1 V Leinster 1 - Claremont Road

YMCA won the toss and posted up 126 of 19.5 with alot of players chipping in. Rachel Lambe getting a quick 16, Gaby Lewis getting 34 and Clare Shillington reaching 42 before Sue Kenealey got her LBW. Sue Kenealy, Laura Delany and A Kerrison were the pick of the Leinster bowlers.

Valmai Gee hit another big score of 67 in this game and was supported at the other end by Laura Delaney who scored 39 not out. Leinster chased the runs down in just 14 overs and are currently sitting at 3rd in the Division 1 league, with 4 out of 4 wins.


Friday, 13th June

Railway Union 2 V North Kildare 2 - Park Avenue

This date can prove to be unlucky for some but not for A Callahan on this occasion, she ended up on 90 not out and was supported by J Guest for her 48 before being got out LBW by A O’Meara. Railway posted a huge 163 of their 20 overs and A O’Meara was the pick of the bowlers for North Kildare.

North Kildare had a big job at hand and 3 players made it into double figures - W Lipson, A O’Meara and T Moore. Railway only used 4 bowlers in their attack and A Callahan picked up 4 wickets. Even tho Railway bowled 20 wides they still managed to win by 79 runs thanks to A Callahan and are sitting at 6th in the Division 3 league with their first win.


D2 - Rush 1 V Merrion 2 - Kenure - No scorecard entered yet


Saturday, 14th June

D3 - North Kildare 2 V Greystones 1 - No scorecard entered yet
