Womens Branch Division 1 - Round 2 Summary

YMCA 1 v Pembroke 1 at Claremont Road

YMCA won the toss and inserted Pembroke. Immediately that proved the correct decision when opener Claire Shillington went for 4 when the score was 4. Her opening partner Shauna Kavanagh had reached 14 when she was bowled for 14. Louise Little was run out when the score was still 20. Cathy Murphy's task to steady thing down. Cliona Tucker 4 and Eimear Mullen 1 didn't last too long. Murphy battling hard at the other end. Anna Beale battled for 15 balls for her 4 and Lesley Ring went for 0. Cathy Murphy made a valiant 32 from 62 balls before falling on the second last ball. Lesley Ring went off the last ball for 0. Pembroke had reached 86 for 8 off their 20 overs. YM's bowlers were excellent. Lucy O'Reilly 1-12, Gaby 1-13, Vanshika Shukla 2-23 and Robyn Lewis with an impressive 3-14.

YMCA opened with Gaby Lewis and Jennifer Gray. The pair made light work of the bowling and raced to 65 when Grey fell for 12. Lewis and Heidi Cheadle brought the score to 84 w2here Lewis fell for an excellent 55 from 32 balls hitting 11 fours. Sarah Forbes 0 not out and Heidi Cheadle 3 not out brought it home for YM. They had reached their target in only 8.1 overs. Pembroke's bowlers needed early wickets which didn't come. Louise little 1-23 the only successful bowler. YMCA easing to an 8 wicket victory with 11.5 overs to spare.

Clontarf 1 v The Hills 1 at Castle Avenue

The home side won the toss and batted, and that proved the correct choice. Una Raymond-Hoey and Kerry Tomlinson opened up. They reached 33 when Raymond-Hoey was caught by Maguire off the bowling of Aisling Byrne. Tess Maritz went soon after bowled by Aisling Byrne for 0. Lara Maritz joined Una Raymond-Hoey and the pair dominated the bowling. The score raced to 156 before Raymond-Hoey fell 5 short of a century for 95 hitting 17 fours. Aoife Brennan joined Lara Maritz and they batted to the end. Brennan not out 11 and Lara Maritz an excellent 58 not out. Clontarf finishing an impr4ssive 203 for 3 from 20 overs. The Hills bowled well early but suffered after that. Aisling Byrne the pick of the bowlers with 2-19, Rhiannon Pope 1-24.

The Hills faced an uphill battle. Alana Ryan and Hannah Corcoran opened up but found the going tough. Ryan went for 4 when the score was 14. Corcoran and Cliodhna O'Reardon brought the score to 30 where Corcoran fell for 12. Aisling Byrne needed to dig in and stop the rot. Two more wickets fell at 36, Cliodhna O'Reardon for 3 and Jane Maguire for 0, both to Tess Maritz. Miranda Andrews and Aisling Byrne brought the score to 69 where Andrews went for21. Aisling Byrne finished 19 not out and Klarrisa Walser not out 22. The pair putting up some resistance at the end. The Hills had reached 122 for 5 from their 20 overs. Clontarf bowled well on the evening with Tess Maritz 2-12, Lara Maritz 1-20, Anna Kirk 1-13 and Aoife Brennan 1-18 the successful bowlers. Clontarf running out victors by 81 runs.

Leinster 1 v Merrion 1 at Observatory Lane

Leinster won the toss and inserted Merrion. Emma Paul fell early when the score was 4 run out. Matilda Lugg and Isobel Joyce settled things down and brought the score to 61 when Joyce was bowled for 34 by Sophie Mac Mahon. Cecelia Joyce and Lugg brought the score to 88 when Cecelia was run out by Vanessa Kelada for 13. Rachael Delaney came and went for 1 bowled by Vanessa Kelada. Sadhbh Breslin followed shortly after for 5 another run out. Lugg was steady at the other end. Emily McAlinden was run out for 1 when the score was 114. Abigail England went lbw for 1 six runs later. Niamh Asher joined Matilda Lugg. Lugg finally went bowled by Amy Kenealy for 63 from 61 balls, a superb knock. Niamh Asher not out 6 and Victoria Hayes not out 1 brought Merrion to 139 for 8 at the close. Leinster's bowling and fielding was excellent. There were four run outs with Amy Kenealy 1-25, Sophie MacMahon 1-25, Vanessa Kelada 1-23 and Jenny Sparrow 1-27 the successful bowlers.

It was game on with Leinster needing 140. Valmai Gee and Laura Delany opened for Leinster. Isobel Joyce and Sadhbh Breslin bowling. Gee was c&b by Sadhbh Breslin for 13 when the score was on 20. Soon after Delany fell lbw to Sadhbh Breslin for 6. Sophie MacMahon and Ruby Shirt the next pair in. Shirt fell for 7 and Sophie McMahon for 30, both to Cecelia Joyce. Leinster now 69-4. The bowling was sharp and the fielding good. Isabel Saeed Maguire and Hannah Ridgeway brought the score to 80 when Ridgeway was run out for 4. Amy Kenealy and Saeed Maguire brought the score to 106 where Saeed Maguire was stumped for 26. Amy Kenealy not out 9 and Ava Canning not out 1 when the overs ran out for Leinster. They had finished 107 for 6 off their 20 overs. The Merrion bowling was good. Sadhbh Breslin 2-20, Isobel Joyce 2-19 and Emma Paul 1-26 the successful wicket takers. Merrion victorious by 32 runs.
