Women Open Competitions

Division 1

With the last game of the Division 1 Women’s competition taking place this Saturday (30.8.2014), it looks like Merrion will take this year’s Division 1 Trophy and add to their silverware.

Leinster CC and Pembroke CC battled it out last night for 2nd place. Pembroke elected to bat first and posted 114 of their 20 overs. Louise McCarthy and Kim Garth posting the majority of PCC’s runs.

Leinster opened with Valmai Gee and young Anna Kerrision and built a good opening partnership. At the halfway mark LCC were on track to chase down the runs. With a change of bowling PCC picked up 3 quick wickets but at this stage you could barely see the ball. The umpires decided to call the game and forced it to a DL decision. The outcome was a draw, and secured 2nd place overall for Leinster PCC.

Pilkington Cup -  P40
Last Sunday Merrion won their first piece of silverware with a convincing win over Leinster CC in the Pilkington 40 Final. Merrion won the toss and asked Leinster to bat. Elana Tice picking up a wicket on the first ball with the stumping of Rebecca Rolfe, this proving to set the tone for the Leinster innings. Anna kerrison put up a good fight and got to 50 runs on the 36 over. Unfortunately, at the other end wickets fell regularly and Leinster were all out for 150.

Sue Kenealy picked up Elana Tice’s wicket in the 6th over, Merrion were on 36 at this stage with lots of batting still left to come. Cecilia Joyce showed her experience and class and posted 76*, supported by Rachel Delany who ended on 22*. Merrion sealing the win on the 25th over.
