It takes a lot to beat competition records in Leinster competitions, some of which go back 100 years. In the case of the highest aggregate runs in a match the record is never likely to be beaten. In 1961, in a ‘no time limit’ Leinster Senior Cup semi-final between Railway Union and Merrion, the game lasted six days and the total number of runs scored was 863. Railway batted first and made 485/7, to which Merrion replied with 378 all out.
In last weekend’s match between Rush and North County, the home side batted first and made 371/6 to which NC replied with 313 all out in the 45th over. The total of 684 runs is joint seventh highest in a limited over game but may will be a tough target to beat this season.
For the record the top ten aggregate scores ever in a single inning match in a Leinster Senior match are set out in the table below.
Rush’s 371/5 innings score just makes it into the top twenty [17th] since the limited over era started.
Hashir Sultan (106*) & Abidullah Taniwal (135) as part of Rush’s 371/5
