  3. LIGHTNING TEAM TO PLAY MUNSTER IN IP50 OPENER (WEDNESDAY 7.5.2025)
6th May 2025 by Cricket Leinster

LIGHTNING TEAM TO PLAY MUNSTER IN IP50 OPENER (WEDNESDAY 7.5.2025)

The Sherwin O’Riordan sponsored Leinster Lightning commence the defence of their IP50 title at Oak Hill next Wednesday, 7th May against Munster Reds.

As communicated previously, Lorcan Tucker takes over the reins as skipper in succession to George Dockrell who led Leinster during an unrivalled period of success over the previous 8 seasons winning no less than 10 IP titles across the different formats.

As expected, just 10 of the 16-man squad assigned by Cricket Ireland are available next week due to a combination of injuries and examinations. Josh Little is also on a short-term contract with Middlesex which rules out his availability.

The selected team/squad is as follows:
Lorcan Tucker (Pembroke), Captain
Gavin Hoey, (Pembroke), Vice-Captain
Harry Tector (Pembroke)
George Dockrell (Phoenix)
Barry McCarthy (Pembroke)
Tim Tector (Pembroke)
Chris De Freitas (Balbriggan)
David Delany (Clontarf)
Jai Moondra (Leinster)
Nasir Totakhil (Rush)
Melvin Deveraj (Merrion)
Cameron Rowe (Balbriggan)
Mark Tonge (Leinster)

Head Coach: Andre Botha
Assistant Coach: Andrew Poynter
Manager: Mick Cotter

Play at Oak Hill is scheduled to commence at 10.45am.

The 13-man squad selected includes representation from seven Premier League clubs. There are 5 players from Pembroke (including the new captain and vice-captain), two from Leinster (including the promising all-rounder Mark Tonge), two from Balbriggan (including Chris De Freitas who performed well on the recent Wolves tour) and finally one each from Phoenix, Clontarf, Merrion and Rush.

Having led the Wolves on their recent tour, Gavin Hoey has been appointed vice-captain in support of Lorcan Tucker.
