Tucker & Singh continue fight for Samuels Cup

Rain once again reared its ugly head on Saturday. Clontarf didn't even get to travel to the Mardyke, with the game against Cork County called off on Friday night. The crucial relegation battle between Railway Union and Malahide faired a little better - Railway batted first, and made 193-9 (Kenny Carroll 69, Rachit Gaur 44, James Newland 4-25). That was as good as it got though, and the rains prevented any more play in Park Avenue all weekend.

These matches will both be refixed, with the OCC asking that they are played before the final round of matches on September 12th.

Unusually for an end of season league match since leagues were reduced to eight teams, the YMCA vs Pembroke was effectively a dead rubber. YMCA made 211 from their 50 overs. Seven batsmen got into double figures, but only Tom Fisher (44) and Albert van der Merwe (42) passed 25. Jono Cook was the pick of the Pembroke bowlers with 3-36 (Ryan Hopkins' 2-22 from ten was also noteworthy)

The same rain that caused the abandonment in Railway Union also cause a long delay in YMCA, and Pembroke's innings was reduced to 25 overs. Their target was 142 from 25 overs, and they reached it thanks to 44 from Theo Lawson and 29 from 19 balls by Jono Cook.

The match of the day was between title contenders North County and Merrion. North County started well, getting to 121-2 thanks to a maiden Senior 50 from Niall McGovern. However, they then lost seven wickets for 28 runs, before Jono Andrews and Andrew Sheridan got the score up to 183, with the match having been reduced to 40 overs due to rain. Legspin twins, David RHoda (4-28) and John Anderson (4-44) shared the wickets.

Merrion required 191 to win, but lost wickets regularly, and the match always looked as if it would be close. Robin Smith hit 59 at the top of the order, and Michael Lewis 44 towards the end. It required Tom Stanton to edge Merrion over the line. He finished on 17* as Merrion won by 1 wicket.

Highest Batting average in Division 1 - Marchant Cup (current qualification - 400 runs. Final qualification 500 runs)

With Clontarf's game falling victim for the weather, Andrew Poynter (and Adrian d'Arcy) didn't get a chance to achieve the important 500 qualification mark. Jack Tector only scored 21 and hence he drops down below Poynter on average. Simmi Singh, Tom Fisher and Fintan McAllister are poised to pounce should the top players fail over the next fortnight.

Three more dismissals for Lorcan Tucker has seen him pick up seven in two games, and makes the last two weeks fascinating.
