Since my last piece on the topic of players reaching landmarks this season, three more have done so.
The first of these is Tom Fisher. Tom entered the season needing 140 runs to reach 3,000 runs. Tom made his debut in Leinster cricket in when he made his first appearance for Railway Union. This year however he moved to Terenure. He took only 3 matches to reach the runs he needed, including an undefeated century against Dublin University. However the crucial innings that brought him past 3,000 runs was an innings of 91 against Leinster 2. This was his 86th match and 89th innings. His total figures after that match are 3,074 runs at an average of 38.56, with 2 centuries and 20 fifties.
The next two to reach their landmarks both did so in the matches played on Bank Holiday Monday, 3rd June.
John Anderson of Merrion came into the season needing 197 to get to 4,000 runs. John had a feature in common with Tom Fisher in that he also made his debut for Railway Union, whom he represented first in 2005. He later moved to Merrion for whom he now plays and indeed has captained. The match in which he reached his landmark was his 4th this season and was against YMCA in which he scored 60. This brought him to 4,013 runs in what was his 111th Match and 108th Innings. He at the end of that match had an average of 43.61 with 8 centuries and 23 fifties.
The last of our three successes is Saadat Gull of Rush, perhaps better known as Tipu. He started this season needing 2 wickets to reach 300. His first match brought him to 299 but as can happen it was his 4th before 3 wickets against Merrion 2 saw him pass 300 and end with 302. Tipu made his debut for Phoenix in 1998 but moved to Rush in 2000 and has spent all his career since with them. He has played 202 matches in all and in taking his 302 wickets has conceded 6,393 runs leaving him with a bowling average of 21.17. In taking these wickets he took 5 or more wickets in an innings on 5 occasions.
So that is nine who have reached landmarks so far this year and I reckon there are a few more to get there before the season is out.
