  3. Leinster launch Leprechaun Cup - Cailíní

Leinster launch Leprechaun Cup - Cailíní

Ireland women’s captain Isobel Joyce launched Cricked Leinster’s new competition for girl’s Primary schools when paying a visit recently to pupils at Castleknock National School in Dublin 15.

The newly formed competition is a great boost for girl’s cricket in the province. The Leprechaun Cup boy’s competition has been a huge success with close to 50 Dublin\Wicklow and Kildare primary schools involved. It is hoped this new competition for girls will follow a similar path.

Isobel Joyce, the Ireland women’s captain was very excited when visiting Castleknock NS, one of the participating schools this year.

‘This is a great boost for girl’s cricket. It's such an advantage to start young with cricket and it's great  to see such an interest currently being shown amongst the schools. The girls' and women's game is definitely on the up and with winter coaching sessions being delivered for all age groups, not just the senior squad, there are plenty of opportunities for girls to represent their province and, hopefully, their country in the future.

There is a lot to look forward to this summer; the senior team travels to the UK quite a lot to play against County and international teams and with the T20 qualifiers being held in Ireland this summer, it gives these girls a chance to see what it's like at the top level and hopefully will give them something to aspire to’.

This year’s event will involve eight schools and  will be run as a day-long festival (9.45-2pm) to be held at Railway Union on Wednesday, June 12th. All schools have been busy preparing for what should be a great day for girl’s cricket.
