  3. Senior League Cup – Matchday 7 Preview
24th May 2019 by Peter Boyd

Senior League Cup – Matchday 7 Preview

The final day of Group games in the IBI Corporate Finance Leinster Senior League Cup take place on Sunday May 26th, and there is still plenty to play for across Dublin.

In Group A, The Hills sit comfortably in first place with a home semi-final and a day off but the battle to join them in those semi-finals is a straight shoot-out.

Malahide and Phoenix meet in The Village for the right to join the men from Skerries in the next round. Both sides have won four matches, but bonus points have Phoenix six points ahead in second place as things stand.

With the weather set fair for Sunday, things will be decided on the pitch.

Elsewhere in Group A, North County host Dublin University and YMCA visit Railway Union. YM are 23 points ahead of North County in the race for the final spot in the Premier League following the split.

Mathematically it is still possible for County to overtake YM, but most likely they will play in the Championship come the split.

Similarly to The Hills, Merrion sit atop Group B with a 100% record and a home semi-final guaranteed.

Pembroke, in second, travel to Clontarf needing a victory to guarantee their place in the semi-finals and a trip to take on The Hills.

Leinster will take advantage of any slip-ups by defeating bottom of the table Terenure in their final game of the Group stages.

The real drama in this group will take place at Kenure, where Rush host Balbriggan. As things stand the visitors are in fourth and will take the final spot in the Premier League.

If Rush can make home advantage count however, they will leapfrog their fellow Fingal club and take a place in the Premier League. A place they were denied in a playoff defeat to Leinster last season.

Peter will be attending the crucial clash between Malahide and Phoenix to see who will make the semi-finals, with a full match report and images to follow at the close of play.
