  3. Senior [D1/D2]: Final Averages
12th September 2017 by Eddie Lewis

Senior [D1/D2]: Final Averages

John Anderson: scored 1000 runs and had the highest total of all-rounder points for 2017

With all the scorecards now uploaded it is possible to provide the end year averages for the top two divisions of cup matches. Some explanation is required of the different permutations:

  • Senior Career Averages: the continuation of the series of player statistics going back to the start of the Leinster Senior league in 1919. This includes leagues [D1/D2] and the leinster Senior Cup.
  • Qualification for the various performance awards which separate into RCD1/LSC and RCD2/LSC,
  • Averages for individual leagues, cups and T20 competitions. These can be got by using the Data Centre on the Cricket Leinster website.
  • Finally, information on the runs scored in Irish Senior Cup matches can be found in the Cricket Europe Statszone. These figures are not incorporated into career or annual club figures for Leinster.

D1/LSC and D2/LSC Averages

D1/LSC: Eight players passed the threshold of 500 runs for the year with Simi Singh [YMCA] topping the averages. Eddie Richardson [N County] scored the most runs. 18 players scored more than 400 runs, including one - John Anderson [Merrion] who scored 431 runs in the LSC alone. Singh and Richardson were the only players to maintain a strike rate in excess of 100 in D1

Jamie Grassi [N County] achieved the most dismissals as a wicket keeper [24], one ahead of Nicolaas Pretorius [Phoenix]. Harry Tector [YMCA] held the most catches [11].

Fifteen players are included in the all-rounder averages [250 runs and 12 wickets / dismissals]. The ranking is determined by points [Run = 1 and Wicket/Dismissal = 20] and three players, Richardson, Jamie Grassi [North County] and John Mooney [Clontarf] amassed over 1000 points in the season. Richardson and Grassi are the only player to feature under the three main headings [batting, bowling/wicket keeper / all-rounder]

D2/LSC: As expected the averages for RCD2 were dominated by players from Merrion. John Anderson achieved the 1000 runs in a season to top the averages and the most runs scored. In all four players made 500 runs or more. Nine players scored more than 400. Tom Stanton [Merrion] was the only player to pass the 25 wicket threshold - taking 41 at an average of 12.17. No less than five players took 23 or 24 wickets - showing that even one fewer match played in the season can make a difference.
