In line with supporting our clubs in the area of Child Safeguarding, Cricket Leinster has asked Jim Bennett (Chair of Cricket Leinster Child Safeguarding & Inclusion Committee) to deliver two Designated Liaison Person (DLP) workshops in February 2019 (one in North Leinster and one in South Leinster).
Given the criticality of this subject, it is required that each club ensure that their nominated DLP attend one or other of these planned workshops.
These DLP workshops will take place on the following dates:
- Tuesday 5th February (at The Hills CC, Skerries) - 6.30pm to 9.30pm
- Tuesday 12th February (at Talbot Hotel, Stillorgan) - 6.30pm to 9.30pm
Every club/organisation should designate a person to be responsible for dealing with any concerns about the protection of children. The Designated Liaison Person is responsible for reporting allegations or suspicions of child abuse to TUSLA Child and Family Agency and An Garda Siochána.
It is recommended that this person is a senior club person. However, if there is difficulty identifying a separate individual to take this role, the Club Children’s Officer can be appointed as Designated Liaison Person once the club/organisation is clear about the responsibilities of each role.
The organisation’s child protection policy and procedures should include the name and contact details of the Designated Liaison Person and the responsibilities attached to the role.
A person appointed to the Designated Liaison Person position in a club must have completed the Basic Awareness Workshop in Child Welfare & Protection and should complete this Designated Liaison Person 3-hour workshop. A club may appoint the same person to both the CCO and DLP positions however best practice advises that they are kept as separate roles.
Each club DLP is asked to please register for one of these dates by Friday 11th January 2019 - to register, please e-mail:
philip.smith@cricketleinster.ie or kevin.gallagher@cricketleinster.ie
Numbers on each workshop are limited to a maximum of 16 so early registration is essential, and a waiting list will be maintained if the maximum number is exceeded.
