I provided before the start of the season a list of targets that various players in Divisions 1 and 2 might reach over the course of 2012. An early start was reached when Shahid Iqbal (Rush) reached 4,000 runs with a century in his first match. However to date that has been the beginning and end of it with nobody else reaching one of the targets I dangled before their nose.
It must be accepted however that the wretched weather has been the main reason for this with the number of matches that have been cancelled. I am now glad to say that we have now seen the second target achiever with Eoghan Delany (Clontarf and Dublin University) reaching 2,000 runs. This is the first major target for a batsman as once he has reached 2,000 runs, and provided he maintains an average of 20,he will appear in the annual career averages as long as he is a current player.
Eoghan made his debut for Clontarf in 2004 and subsequently for Dublin University also in 2008. In total he has played 110 matches in League and Cup between the two, batted 89 times with a highest score of 113* this year for Dublin University in League Division 2. He has got exactly 2,000 runs to date, 1161 for Clontarf and 839 for Dublin University. In all he has that one century and 9 fifties. Eoghan’s bowling must not of course be forgotten either, with 59 wickets.
