  3. Review of the season - RSA Division 13
3rd October 2012 by Paul Reynolds

Review of the season - RSA Division 13

How the league was won - Ring Commons were originally asked to play their 2012 cricket in Division 10, but after vociferous complaints were accommodated instead in Division 13. It turned out to be several divisions too low, as the new Fingallians ran away with Division 13. They lost a couple of games, and losses in any of their last four matches would have handed the title to Leinster 7. The Rathmines team chased hard, but two losses to Halverstown meant that they were always just behind the new boys. Halverstown themselves chased hard, but lost a game every month to leave them a creditable third.

How dreams turned to nightmares - Not only did Knockharley 3 have five games rained off, they also gave walkovers twice to Rush 3. With a new regulation penalising sides who give walkovers, they were always in trouble. Bizarrely their first win of the season was against Ring Commons. Railway Union 5 were a bit unlucky to be relegated as well. One more win all season would have been enough to make the top half of the table. As it was, most of their defeats were heavy. The one that got away was a 19 run loss to Leinster in a mid-summer 20/20

Heroes with the willow - No surprise that the top batsman in the division was Anto Coates who scored 514 runs at 42.83. More of a shock maybe that numbers 2 and 3 were both from Halverstown. Msses Dempsey and Matthew both scored well, with Sean Dempsey scoring 378 runs at 75

Hell for leather - Again it was Halverstown and Ring Commons to the fore. Stuart Gallagher topped the list with 36 wickets at 9.69 with Robin Chalissery of Ring Commons in second place with 23 at 9.57

Days to remember - There were two double centuries scored in Rush this season. The scorer of the first one ended up with the Ireland u19 squad in Australia. Anto Coates wasn't so lucky, but a fine innings of 203* saw Ring Commons home to a big victory. Ger Siggins list of double hundreds scored in Ireland can be found at http://www.cover-point.com/post/George-Kenny-by-Ger-Siggins.aspx (Although it hasn't been updated for 2012)

Stat you may have missed - The four most expensive bowling analyses of the division 13 season were all in Kenure. Perhaps no surprise - the average Division 13 score in Kenure was 227 in 40 overs. It is a bit more bizarre though that those four performances were all Rush bowlers. The hospitality in Rush extended to the middle.
