  3. Report from Sunday [28th April]
29th April 2013 by Eddie Lewis

Report from Sunday [28th April]

Each week we hope to carry a summary report on the happenings over the weekend. I am starting in reverse order with Sunday.

First of all thanks to everyone who got in results, updates, reports and in some cases scorecards into Cricket Leinster. There was good coverage of games on the RSA [Live Scores] Match Centre [MC] with all 17 OCC games being previewed and updates  provided for 14 games on the MC. All fourteen matches have results posted [a fifteenth D10 game between Malahide 5 and Civil Service 3 sent in a result after the match centre closed]. There was also coverage of the first Womens Pilkington 40 over game between Pembroke and the Hills which Pembroke won by 10 wickets.

The two matches that were completely off the radar were:

D11:    Castleknock 2 v Wexfrod 2

D12:    Lucan 1 v Halverstown 1

Some clubs [3] managed to get in scorecards and there were a couple of MATCH REPORTS. We will include these where available in summary reports. Obviously the statistics are incomplete but there were a few notable performances. It was reported that Aaron Joseph got 6 wickets for Phoenix in their D6 win over Railway U 4. The best recorded bowling of the day, however, was W Gunnell [5/12] for Trinity 3 against Railway U 4.

Top score of the day was A Carr [83] for Pembroke 5 against Merrion 4 in D7.

Trinity 3 had the most successful weekend winning their two matches in D13 by bowling out the opposition for 56 [following Laois 4 for 50 on Saturday] winning by 10 and 8 wickets respectively.

The lowest scoring affair on Sunday was in D9 where Knockharley 2 successfully defended 65 to win by 5 runs agaisnt Sandyford 2.

Match Report:             Very low scoring match with Knockharley somehow managing to defend a total of 65 in Marley Park. Despite a battling 22 from Ray Shimmons, Sandyford could only manage 60 having collapsed from 49/4.

Six wickets for 11 runs makes this the most dramatic collapse of the season to lose a match so far. I am sure it will be bettered.

The highest chase of the day was in the RSA Irish National Cup [Preliminary Round] where Terenure managed to chase down Rush’s score of 222 by 2 wickets. Terenure now join Clontarf in the 1st Round in two weeks time.

Special note, however, should go to Cork County in their D3 match against Pembroke 2. Needing 148 for victory they seemed in trouble until the last pair came to the wicket and put on 40 to seal the win.

Highest Last Wicket Stand to win a Match:                        Cork County   40 [D3]

This is a record that may last the season.

Some big wins on the day. The largest margin for a team batting first was in the D8 between Adamstown and The Hills 3 where the former won by 196 runs. Trinity [D13], Pembroke [WD1] ran out winners by 10 wickets. Mention also of Clontarf 2 who won their RSA Senior II Cup match against Mullingar by nine wickets. Greystones 2 also won by nine wickets against Bagenalstown 2 in D9. A report of the match was uploaded:

Greystones won the toss and put Bagenalstown in. A very youthful Bagenalstown side struggled to score with any fluency and there was a steady stream of wickets. The only resistance came from Bagenalstown skipper Ray Stapleton who scored 39 of the 'town’ total of 68. All of the Greystones bowlers bowled with accuracy and exploited the helpful conditions with Simon Rice picking up 4 for 18 and Wasim Saeed 3 for 9. When Greystones batted it looked a different pitch with Peter Daniel (40*) and Nathan Buick (23*) making short work of the Bagenalstown total. Sweeney was the only wicket to fall to Colin O Neill. A comprehensive victory for Greystones 2.

Finally, thanks to all who kept the updates coming in. This greatly adds to the enjoyment of players and supporters alike and serves the important purpose of getting supporters involved and extending interest in the sport.
