At the annual dinner in the autumn, from amongst the best cricket photos of the year, one will be chosen as being the very best. Seven monthly winners, along with three others unlucly enough not to be chosen, will make up the final shortlist.
It has been a tough job choosing the April winner - as soon as the cricket season started, the standard has gone through the roof. Below are this week's three entrants, and we reveal the month's best.
Gus Fleming deserves two honourable mentions for the first photo this week. Not only has he sent in the photo, but he is also responsible for the magnificent spectable that is currently Anglesea Road. This photo was the first ball of the season bowled in Merrion - although I'm not sure which match!
Entry number two, was sent in by Amy Kenealy, showing Jenny Gray of Dublin Uinversity on what was a historic occasion. Gray had just scored the first hundred in the history of women's cricket in Trinity, although the occasion may have been dampemed a bit by being against her former club, North Kildare.
The final picture of the week was sent in by Michael Gavin, showing Max Sorensen in full flow last week. Sorensen scored 59 runs as The Hills started their season with a 57 run win over Railway Union.
The standard this month has been very high, and it is well worth having a look through all the finalists at the April Gallery - http://www.cricketleinster.ie/photos/april-2013-cricket-leinster-photo-of-the-year
In the end it came down to three shots - Deryck Vincent's picture of a flying Adam Craig, Steve Livsey's photo of the tractor at Halverstown, and today's picture by Michael Gavin of Max Sorensen.
In the end we plumped for the Max Sorensen shot - for it's clarity, focus and composition. Rather embarassingly, that is Michael Gavin's second image after the final, after he also won in March!
We need another eight finalists before the winner is known, so get snapping!
