Poynter unavailable, Ackland returns

The Leinster Lightning selectors today announced the following 12-man squad for the final Newstalk 106-108fm Inter-Provincial Trophy game of 2014 versus the Northern Knights this Saturday the 20th September in Leinster Cricket Club, Rathmines.

John Mooney (North County - Captain)

John Anderson (Merrion - Vice-captain)

Ben Ackland (Merrion)

Yaqoob Ali (YMCA)

Andrew Balbirnie (Middlesex)

Tyrone Kane (Merrion)

Fintan McAllister (Malahide - Wicketkeeper)

Barry McCarthy (Pembroke)

Cormac McLoughlin (The Hills)

David Murphy (Pembroke)

Kevin O’Brien (Railway)

Albert Van der Merwe (YMCA)

The squad reflects a single change from that which completed last weekend’s title-winning 47-run victory over the same opposition, with Merrion’s Ben Ackland replacing Andrew Poynter who is not available due to personal commitments. Andrew will be sorely missed after his sublime hundred last weekend.

Futher squad news is that Max Sorensen and Eddie Richardson continue to recuperate from their respective injuries, while Stuart Poynter is unavailable due to commitments with Durham. David Murphy, Pembroke’s young opening bowler continues to replace Sorensen in the squad having performed 12th man duties on Sunday.

Victory in Waringstown secured the Lightning our second title of the season but we are extremely keen to finish on a high on Saturday in front of our home support. Play gets underway at 10:15am in Rathmines and entry is free.

Lastly, the Lightning selectors would like to congratulate all who were selected for Ireland’s World Cup warm-up trip down-under and we wish them the very best of luck on the tour.
