Player Mobility: The Movement between Clubs

Looking out on another wet morning with the prospect of more disrupted matches, we turn our attention to something completely different. Player mobility. For those whose memories go back into the last century this might be counted as something of a new phenomenon in Leinster cricket where traditionally most players signed up to one club for life. Club loyalties are still very important but it is clear that the growth in players and clubs has resulted in a greater churn in the playing numbers in clubs. We will return to this subject when all the exams are out of the way to examine the numbers coming into and leaving the sport since last year - for the moment we look at the numbers moving from one club to another.

As of the beginning of June there have been 99 club transfers for adult competitions, including 10 women / girls. In terms of Open Competitions this represents just over 5% of the 1688 players who have turned out so far this season and a decline in club transfers from the 2015 season when there were 125 club movements. While the numbers may still go up, one would expect that most players who have decided to move club will have done so by now.
