The entire club cricket community is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Prendergast (Clontarf CC and Pembroke CC).
Peter played for Clontarf CC over a career which spanned 16 seasons during which time he accumulated almost 2,900 senior runs at an average of 20.32 per innings. Peter played mainly as an opening batsman and achieved his highest score (108) against Malahide in Castle Avenue in July 1992. That same year, Peter was part of the Clontarf team which won the Leinster Senior Cup defeating YMCA in the Phoenix Park. In fact, Clontarf completed a senior league and cup double that year.
Peter was a key player in a stable and successful Clontarf 1st XI and played many times alongside his great pal, Deryck Vincent, also Alan McClean, Enda McDermott, Brian MacNeice, Feargal O'Mahony, Gerry Kirwan, Brendan Bergin, Johnny Daly and many others as part of a close-knit club cricket community.
As his playing days drew to a close, Peter spent his summers providing faithful, encouraging and enduring support to his three children as they made their way in life and as young cricketers at Pembroke CC.
Peter’s daughter (Orla) is a cornerstone of our International Women's team having also represented Ireland in underage soccer. Both of Peter's sons (Conor and Joe) have represented Pembroke on many occasions and with great distinction.
Peter was also an accomplished essayist and author. He wrote insightful and entertaining pieces based on his experiences of club cricket which resonated with all cricket enthusiasts.
Peter also authored books including 'The Romanian Builder' (published in 2009 and aimed at young readers aged six to eight) and 'Dancing in the Dark' (published in 2010 for readers above the age of ten) which was awarded the White Raven Label by the International Youth Library at Bologna Book Fair 2011.
Our deepest sympathies to Peter's beloved wife (Trish), his boys (Conor and Joe), his daughter (Orla), all the Prendergast family & many friends at Pembroke, Clontarf and right across the club cricket community.
