  3. LHW Financial Planning Premier League Play-offs
7th August 2019 by Peter Boyd

LHW Financial Planning Premier League Play-offs

After seven rounds of LHW Financial Planning Premier League action the play-offs get underway on Saturday August 10th with a qualifying semi-final, an elimination semi-final and two Plate semi-finals.

The Qualifying semi-final sees Pembroke host Merrion at Sydney Parade, with the winners progressing to the Grand Final on September 7th.

Pembroke jumped from fourth to second in the table on the final day with a 184-run victory over Leinster, on the back of a sublime 116 from Lorcan Tucker.

Merrion topped the table after defeating The Hills by 5-wickets, Max Sorensen (33*) and Ollie Newton (26*) settling any nerves in the Anglesea Road side.

Merrion should be at home in this match but due to the Horse Show taking place in the RDS, they have had to cede home advantage.

The elimination semi-final sees The Hills host Malahide at The Vineyard. The Hills were unbeaten for long periods of the season but defeats to Pembroke and Merrion over the closing stages saw them drop to third in the table.

The loser of that match is eliminated, while the winner will play the loser of Pembroke against Merrion to qualify for the Grand Final on September 24th.

Meanwhile in the Plate competition YMCA host Rush and Phoenix welcome Leinster to the Park.

YMCA defeated Rush in the round robin phase last weekend by 65-runs thanks to a 215-run second-wicket partnership between Harry (137) and Jack (88) Tector.

Phoenix hammered Malahide last Saturday with professional Poonish Mehta hitting 92 not out and taking 4-14 in a 141-run victory.

The Plate Competition is a straight knockout, with both semi-final winners meeting in the final on August 24th.
