  3. Leinster Lightning Squad to travel to Bready for 3-Day Warriors Clash
14th June 2019 by Leinster Lightning

Leinster Lightning Squad to travel to Bready for 3-Day Warriors Clash

The Leinster Lightning has today announced a 12-man squad for the trip to Bready to face the North West Warriors in the Test Triangle Inter-Provincial Championship from Monday 17th June to Wednesday 19th June.

Ahead of the Summer Smash T20 event on 21st June, the opening Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy Festival weekend and a home Inter-Provincial 50-over Cup match, this match marks the beginning of a busy fortnight for the Lightning squad.

This is also the final Inter-Provincial game under Head Coach Albert van der Merwe before he hands over the reigns to new leader Nigel Jones during the T20 Festival at Pembroke on the weekend of 22nd June.

As such van der Merwe and the selectors have opted for consistency and stability in selecting this squad. In May, the Lightning defeated the Warriors by 78 runs in an IP50 match at Bready and there is just one change from that squad to the one that travels to the North West next week.

Stephen Doheny picked up a slight muscle strain while on Ireland Wolves duty and his place is taken by The Hills’ opener Cormac McLoughlin-Gavin. Cormac has been in fine form for both his club and the Lightning Bolts in the early part of the 2019 season and deserves his chance to join the senior squad.

Captain George Dockrell is looking forward to the busy period for the Lightning.

“We’ve a chance to go to Bready and get our Championship season up and running with a win. We’ve shown decent form in the IP50 games thus far and it’s important for us as a squad to continue that form.

“If we can do that in the early part of the week, that will build momentum and carry us into what is undoubtedly a big weekend of T20. We must focus on this Championship match first however.”

The Leinster Lightning face the North West Warriors from Monday 17th Juneto Wednesday 19th June from 11am each morning. The 3-day match will be live scored via CricClubs on the Match Centre on www.cricketleinster.ie with regular updates on @lcu_lightning and @cricketleinster on Twitter and daily reports from Bready on the website.
